GENERAL PURPOSE:

The part time Custodian will be responsible for the general maintenance and cleanup of the High Blue and the surrounding grounds. Participate in set up and tear down of private rentals in the facility. Operate the various types of equipment and tools required to perform custodial and maintenance duties. Incumbent must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the mission and goals of the Belton Parks & Recreation Department. Carry out their assigned responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by the individual in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties as assigned.

  • Knows and understands the rules and regulations governing the facility use and the facility emergency procedures.
  • Stock and organize supply closets.
  • Assist in providing necessary items or additions to the private rentals.
  • Incumbent must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the mission and goals of the Belton Parks & Recreation Department. Carry out their assigned responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Operates various types of equipment and tools for specialized and general maintenance within the facility.
  • Operates all equipment and tools in a safe, reasonable, and efficient manner with special consideration given to the safety of self, co-workers, and the public.
  • May be required to investigate patron complaints regarding operation of equipment in facility.
  • On occasion, participate in a variety of landscape and cleaning activities on the surrounding grounds including picking up trash and debris, changing trash bags in outdoor barrels.
  • Maintenance of laundered equipment used daily.
  • Other special duties assigned by the Custodial and Maintenance Superintendent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Able to follow written, verbal, or diagrammed instructions.
  • Able and willing to perform heavy manual labor requiring physical strength and dexterity.
  • Able to use hand tools and operate equipment efficiently, safely, and effectively.
  • Able and willing to accept new techniques, tasks, and training.
  • Demonstrate willingness to assist co-workers with responsibilities when needed.

Education and Experience:
  • High School degree or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience or general knowledge of cleaning and chemicals preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
