Job description
The Paramedic is responsible for providing competent pre-hospital, emergency room and in hospital care to the sick and injured, according to the level of licensure and training appropriate for the paramedic. The paramedic will be able to make necessary critical decisions under considerable physical and emotional stress and to intervene, manage traumatic and medical emergencies by assuming responsibility for his/her actions
Minimum:
EMT-P License
Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support or equivalent, PALS or equivalent BLS, ACLS, Haz-Mat awareness level.
Current class E or higher-Level driver license.
No physical lifting limitations.
Comply with current Missouri recertification guidelines.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
Works carefully and precisely without creating unnecessary errors. Pay close attention to detail. Completes necessary documents according to hospital and departmental policy. Evaluates and follows up on service rendered. Provides necessary services to those customers with whom hospital serves.
Display sensitivity to needs of customers. Supplies customers with emotional as well as technical, displays polite behavior to customers, speaks in positive professional manner about customers and hospitals, responds promptly to customer's request and needs in timely manner.
Good organizational skills and utilizes time wisely, maintain neat and orderly work environment, complete assigned task in a timely manner, seek additional work upon completion of assignments, uses good communication skills and empathy, willingly share information and resources with co-workers, take time to explain and exchange information with customers, maintain composure under stress and continue to work effectively.
Promote positive relations in dealing with customers promote teamwork by working with other employees and departments to coordinate services, assess each situation before taking action, seek assistance / guidance when necessary, and participate on committees/ task force when requested.
Observes hospital guidelines concerning unscheduled absences so as not to result in disciplinary action and report absences according to hospital procedure, complies with hospital policies concerning smoke breaks, rest breaks, and meals. Reports to work when scheduled according to department procedure, be available to work as needed.
Discuss personal, patient and staff related issues in a confidential manor and appropriate location, follow hospital policy concerning confidentiality of customers.
Demonstrates professional development on the job as evidenced by completing a minimum requirement for in service and or continuing education. Attend mandatory in-service and licensing required in-service programs.
Treat customers in an ethical manner, respect the dignity and individuality of customers and commit to customers by putting their well- being before personal, financial, and procedural concerns.

Appropriate knowledge and application of growth development as relate to age group which services are provided. Could include newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, provide patient education specific to the patients' needs, age, and level of understanding.
Able to understand and utilize all approved medical control protocols used for patient care, consistent with licensure.
Demonstrates the ability to access and care for the patient with medication overdose or chemical ingestion. This includes airway management, gastric lavage, poison control access, and antidote medications. Demonstrates proper use of cardiac monitoring and pulse oximetry.
