Note - This is an On-Site 2nd Shift (Hours 11a-8p)

Job Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist plays a vital role in providing comprehensive Human Resources (HR) support to the organization's Plant employees and management team. This individual will be responsible for encompassing a wide range of HR functions, including recruitment, labor relations, employee relations, performance management, compliance, employee development, coaching, and HR administration. The position requires a proactive and hands-on approach to effectively address human resources needs within the food manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains accurate and confidential HR records, including personnel files and documentation related to disciplinary actions.
  • Collaborates with hiring managers and Talent Acquisition team members to source, interview, and select top talent for various positions within the Plant.
  • Ensures the Company's policies and procedures comply with relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Acts as the trusted point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution.
  • Oversees the investigation process by meticulously maintaining all documentation related to investigations, monitoring associate complaints, and reviewing allegations of Company policy and employment law violations.
  • Administer the Plant employee benefit programs and provides guidance on benefits-related matters.
  • Assists Plant leadership in routine employee relations matters including employee development, performance feedback, attendance, disciplinary actions, benefits, leaves of absence, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Safety Team to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Guides Plant leadership team on performance management issues that arise in the workforce, including but not limited to disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Provides reports on staffing, turnover, absenteeism, associate demographics, or other reports required by the HR Manager and/or Plant leadership.
  • Represents the Company in unemployment adjudications and appeals.
  • Coordinates and facilitates roundtables, focus groups, and other meetings to gauge the pulse of the workforce to detect indicators of disengagement, dissatisfaction, and union activity.
  • Maintains a regular presence on the production floor to provide a face for HR in the workplace.
  • Interacts regularly with leadership team to address their issues and concerns and to focus HR support where needed.
  • Informs the HR Supervisor of significant issues and provides recommendations for change or improvement as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the HR Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of Human Resources practices and ability to provide employee relations expertise for employee retention, company policies, teambuilding, conflict resolution, communication, and feedback, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in the application of rules, employment laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Tactfully dealing with others in difficult or sensitive situations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills by demonstrating effective listening, probing and investigatory skills with the ability to synthesize data collected and identify the root problems/causes.
  • Strong organization and time management skills with ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to influence team members and leaders and to build strong, collaborative relationships.
  • Effective in both team-oriented and independent work settings.
  • Possess the ability to respond urgently and proactively to address issues, questions, and concerns.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Capacity to use forward-thinking approaches in solving problems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) and Human Resource Information System (HRIS) such as SAP, UKG, Workday, etc.

Education & Experience:

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years human resources experience serving as an HR Generalist or similar role is required.
  • At least 1-2 years performing in a manufacturing, industrial, or union environment is preferred.
  • Prior experience with HRIS systems such as PeopleSoft, Workday, UKG, ADP, and SAP.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) is highly desirable.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and Plant work environments. Possibility of being exposed to varying conditions in the Plant setting, such as cold areas, warm areas, chemicals, and other site conditions.
  • Must be able to work in different climate conditions.
  • The noise level of the environment is usually moderate.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, and walking for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25-50 pounds at a time.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
