Job description

Duties Serve as historian for the Military Police Corps as well as the U.S. Army Military Police School. Plan, develop and direct Military Police Corps historical program that enables the Chief of Military Police to meet their responsibilities for preparation and use of military history in the accomplishment of mission activities in the Army Military Police Corps, and the U.S. Army Military Police School. Supervise and participate in the Military Police Corps historical research and analysis program, including the preparation of the center's Annual Command History, focusing on branch-related activities; historical monographs; and special historical studies in support of the branch's planning and decision-making processes. Serve as coordinator for military history education in the U.S. Army Military Police school and for history related officer and noncommissioned officer professional development in the branch, promoting the study and use of military history throughout the branch May be requested to address groups which have special interest in specific area of specialty. Plan, develop and implement a branch-wide historical research collection, ensuring the availability of key historical source documents to provide the corporate memory of the Military Police Corps and the U.S. Army Military Police School. BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR HISTORIAN: Degree:Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service which includes: methods and techniques of historical research in the collection, evaluation, analysis and presentation of historical facts. Plans, develops, and implements a branch-wide historical research collection, ensuring the availability of key historical source documents. Incorporates oral history into the process, including conducting, transcribing, and preserving all interviews. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). OR Education: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as History. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: History and Archaeology

Research Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
