Job description

Duties Plans, schedules, and assigns work on a daily basis to be carried out by subordinates; set and adjusts short-term priorities; prepares schedules for completion of work. Utilize equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting, and automated police information retrieval systems. Writes and updates regulations, policy letters, memorandums, and guidelines pertaining to the motor vehicle traffic supervision regulations. Performs a broad range of Force Protection functions, law enforcement duties, accident investigation, crime prevention, traffic control, evidence gathering, bike patrol, and community policing. Conducts preliminary investigations of accidents, security breaches, and criminal activities; writes police, traffic, and incident and activity reports. Conducts long-range and day-to-day planning of traffic missions and investigations, and subordinate activities ensuring consideration of all assigned areas of responsibility. Plans, manages, and directs all aspects of motor vehicle traffic supervision and investigation for the installation. Directs traffic and enforces motor vehicle operations including directing traffic and issuing tickets for violations. Conducts security checks on facilities and perimeter checks of the fence line, either by vehicle, walking or All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). Places or moves barricades, cones speed boxes, marquees and other equipment related to traffic, pedestrian, crowd control and public safety. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination. This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime. In accordance with (IAW) Army Regulation (AR) 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. Be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting, and automated police information retrieval systems. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and must know First Aid. The incumbent may act as a first responder in a medical emergency. Must be US citizen to apply. The incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT) as outlined in Army Regulation 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program". Must successfully complete the US Army Military Police School Traffic Collision Investigations School within one year of employment. Wear of uniforms is required. May be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shield, and body armor. TDY and travel on commercial and military planes required. Traffic Control Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08). Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information Must successfully graduate from a DA Police Academy or approved certification course. Must have successfully completed the Military Police Traffic Accident Investigations Course of instruction or have completed an equivalent course within one year of hire. IAW AR 190-56 and AR 670-10, a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene will be maintained at all times. The face will be clean-shaven, except mustaches are permitted. If a mustache is worn, it will be kept neatly trimmed, tapered, tidy and will not present a chopped off appearance. Handlebar mustaches, goatees, and beards are not authorized. If appropriate medical authority prescribes a beard, the length required for medical treatment will also be specified. A neatly trimmed beard will then authorized. The length will not exceed 1 inch. This is a testing designated position. Personnel are required to sign DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program). Personnel must pass drug screening prior to hiring and will be subject to random drug testing on an unannounced basis IAW AR 190-56 this position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP), and has been designated by Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security. Personnel must meet the standards for the IRP. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
