Psychiatric NP needed in Shelby, MT80 miles north of Great Falls, MTFull timePermanent positionPyschiatric Nurse PractitionerDiagnose patient conditions and their causes. They interview patients about symptoms and complaints, and determine whether a psychiatric disorder has a physiological or emotional basis. They screen patients for physical illness and analyze explanations for psychiatric illness, such as developmental issues, family dysfunction, genetics, neurological trauma or social or cultural problems. Assessment of risk factors for mental illness and broader wellness evaluations are part of the job as well. Treatment Psychiatric nurses provide a range of therapies to patients in their care. They conduct individual, group or family counseling sessions, and write prescriptions for psychotropic medications under the supervision of psychiatrists and when state regulations allow. For patients on medications, they monitor their use and document treatment results. For patients experiencing a mental crisis, psychiatric nurses may intervene with therapy or medication. Collaboration Psychiatric nurses track patient progress and report their results to doctors, including psychiatrists and psychologists. They work with other medical professionals to evaluate or change treatment plans and educate patients' families.
