Job description
Here's what makes this job unique: we're looking for someone with 0-4 years of experience, but a little more could be acceptable depending on their background. This associate position offers immediate courtroom exposure and the chance to interact with many judges and attorneys. It's a blend of in-office and courthouse work. The ideal applicant would be outgoing, take initiative, and work hard. There is some travel time to various courthouses, but we provide office vehicles. The candidate is more than welcome to obtain clients and do that work in addition to what we will assign them, and we are happy to help train them to facilitate that. Another big positive here is we do not require or have any billable time requirements, and generally, the candidate will not need to track their time. This is a big positive for any lawyer accustomed to billing time and obligated to hit an annual minimum.
Our Firm is a regional civil litigation and collection law firm headquartered in Iowa. We're looking for a licensed individual to join our firm as an associate. The ability and willingness to obtain licensing in other states is a plus. We practice in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, and Texas. A successful associate attorney with us will be ambitious, hard-working, intelligent, confident, motivated, efficient, and collaborative. Prior court experience and an understanding of courtroom procedures and the Iowa Rules of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence are necessary. We don't have any billable hour requirements.
Daily duties of an associate include:
- Litigating and managing various civil law matters, including creditor's rights, insurance subrogation, commercial contracts, and other general civil litigation matters.
- Reviewing, researching, and developing legal theories and case strategies for incoming claims.

- Pre-trial preparation, including witness coordination and exhibit filings.
