Tact Staff is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in North Platte, Nebraska.

- # of Beds: 32
- Nurse/Patient Ratios: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MedSurg 1:5
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Common diagnoses: Heavy cath lab - Coronary angiograms & stenting,
peripheral angiograms & stenting, sepsis, neurosurgery, drug & alcohol
abuse, COPD, CHF, etc. ICU: occasional IABP, Impella (higher acuity typically
go to core staff) Occasional peds - go to core staff.
- Experience: First time traveler okay. Prefer ICU background, otherwise must have PCU background. Must be able to titrate drips. Must be comfortable taking PCU
(1:4) or MedSurg (1:5) patients - there are time that there are no 'ICU' patients on
the floor.
- Are RNs required to titrate drips?: Yes
- Common titratable: ICU: all common critical care drips. PCU: Cardizem, insulin,
pressors/inotropes, heparin, Lasix, bumex.
- Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift: 1 charge nurse every shift. They only take
patients if absolutely necessary. They respond to all codes/rapids. House
supervisor does bed control/placement.
- Are there nurse aids on this unit: Techs are generally staffed (census/staffing
dependent) ratios: 1:8-16.
- Hospitalist in house 24/7: Hospitalist in house 24/7 for their patients. Some
primary care physicians follow their patients here. No intensivist.
- RT in ICU 24/7: Yes
- RT Equipment: Vents, CPAP, BIPAP, heated high flow (Opti flow).
- Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit: Tele tech is located in the ICU. They
watch all 3rd floor patients, 4th floor & some ER. RNs are required to be able to
read the strips on the monitors when they assess the patient, but telemetry is
always watching. Tele monitors are Phillips.
- Shifts & Scheduling: 12Hr shifts: 545a-6p & 545p-6a. Core staff scheduled first,
then agency fill in. Schedule is out for 6-weeks at a time, 2 weeks in advance.
- Weekend Requirements: At least every other, if not most all weekends
- Holiday Requirements: Varies, but usually we will staff them into holidays, as
needed.
- Is there a call or standby requirement: No
- Floating Requirements: No floating outside of this mixed unit.
- Scrub Color: Royal blue scrubs.
- How many shifts of unit specific orientation: Hospital orientation is M-F the first
week, then they will train for 2 shifts on the unit. The hospital orientation covers
EPIC training, basic skills, & manager expectations.
