Job description

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S
Air Force and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II.JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges

JOB SUMMARY

-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

In this role, you will research and provide design level solutions for the current fixed telecommunications systems within JT4 while considering availability, scalability, security, and manageability as appropriate
You will also perform network system engineering on a broad range of programs providing overall support for various business-critical networks
This involves working with customers to understand their technology and product needs, designing new systems, defining and developing new computing, network, and security technology products, and working with product development teams to implement them
In this role, you will work individually and in teams to perform internal research and development, respond to customer proposals, provide technical leadership, and advise product teams

• Well versed in the application and operation of fixed telecommunications systems and network architecture

• Conducts research and reference reading to assist higher-level engineers in obtaining technical information and keeps informed of currently approved standards, codes and procedures applied to engineering specialty

• Performs engineering or other highly technical tasks that are varied and maybe somewhat difficult in character

• Strong knowledge in Time-division multiplexing (TDM) switching networks to include Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), Signaling System 7 (SS7) and Signal Transfer Point (STP) theory and operation

• Able to perform unaided system cabling build, design, and connection including patch panel, 4-wire Dual tone multi-frequency (DTMF) and Ethernet

• Experience with multi vendors such as AT&T, Motorola, Nortel, Nokia, and Ericsson

• Plans and carries out successive engineering steps and resolves technical problems by standard practices and techniques, such as tolerance studies and design calculations

• Strong knowledge of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) based Internet Protocol (IP) soft switching systems and transmissions protocols that includes subscriber provisioning, and Media Gateway provisioning / operations

• Supports projects with limit scope or parts of more complex projects with detailed instructions on the intent and scope of the documents to be prepared
• Familiar and experience with various protocol analyzers for SIP, IP, TDM and SS7 applications

• Generate sections of design specifications of more complex projects or complete specifications of less complex projects

• Able to perform operation, and troubleshooting of Linux systems
(Redhat, SUSE, SE)
• Using computer assisted test methods, conducts laboratory investigations on equipment or systems

• Assists in preparation of reports, correspondence or technical studies

• Studies currently approved standards, codes, and procedures applied to the engineering specialty

• Prepare, deliver and submit technical presentations for in-process design and review meetings

• Perform all other position related duties as assign or requested
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong knowledge of networking at the CCNA level working toward or possessing a CCNP
• Strong knowledge of general LAN/WAN protocols (MPLS, OSPF and BGP) necessary
• Working knowledge of IP multicast routing to include IGMPv2 and IGMPv3
• Experience with enterprise network management tools such as HPNA, SolarWinds, Cisco Smartnet, LiveAction, Splunk, or similar technologies
• General knowledge of WAN acceleration, load balancing, data center technologies, and network automation and management tools is a plus REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE A Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution and 4 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited Master of Science in engineering and a minimum of 2 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited doctorate degree in engineering are required for this position
In addition, an Engineer III must possess the following qualifications:
• Mastery of concepts, principles, and practices of engineering that enable the employee to serve as a technical authority on projects relating to the specific programs
• Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply the latest developments in engineering to solve problems in the specialty area
• Working knowledge of computer systems and computer-based engineering tools
• Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software
• Excellent communication and analytical skills
• Planning/organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards
Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required
Travel to remote company work locations may be required
