Job description

Duties Performs test, mission preparation, and execution functions of instrumentation systems for 5th Gen Fighters. Troubleshoots, repairs, fabricates, overhauls, modifies, tests, calibrates, and installs instruments and equipment such as electrical/electronic precision measurement test consoles and 1553 Data Bus recording and/or collection equipment. Participates in the test/mission and planning process. Participates in the test planning process and works in conjunction with government to accomplish all program planning and scheduling activities. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. A pre-employment physical is required. This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty location. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, shift work, and/or overtime. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position. Incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain a government and flight line driver's license. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. (CONTIN.) Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Electronics Technical Series 0856. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-10 level FOR EXTERNAL APPLICANTS AND GS-09 level FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, principles, data, techniques, criteria and practices involved in electronics and extensive experience and skill in applying a wide range of technical electronic engineering principles, analytical and diagnostic techniques; policies sufficient to design, fabricate, install, check, maintain, and test one-of-a-kind airborne instrumentation systems and upgrade their capabilities based on application of emerging technology; plan, design, develop, or construct electronics sensing and measurement devices and applications using newer technology found in aerospace research, development, test and evaluation; control electronic data collection systems using nonconventional hardware and understand their capabilities; and plan, develop, construct, and integrate new devices into the system to perform multiple tasks not previously associated with aerospace and/or other test and evaluation system capabilities. Comprehensive knowledge in application of electronics theory to instrumentation and telemetry systems, including solid state components and digital techniques, use of test equipment including logic analyzers, PLA/PLC programmers, telemetry systems, spectrum analyzers, oscillators, and amplifiers, application of mathematics, including algebraic- formulas and physics to instrumentation, and telemetry systems, and interpretation of schematic diagrams, blueprints, and wiring diagrams. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS , I have a combination of experience and education equivalent to the GS-09. Note: Must submit transcripts and resume. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-10 level FOR EXTERNAL APPLICANTS AND GS-09 level FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and electronic principles and theories, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems Knowledge of systems and component design, capabilities, configuration limitations, and functional operations, and various types of electronics logic. Knowledge of testing and troubleshooting techniques and procedures necessary to analyze, repair, and maintain electro-mechanical; and electronic instrument systems where the equipment is interrelated and performs multiple functions and/or where performance specifications are met only by making simultaneous adjustments and alignments to interrelated systems and devices. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices. Skill in interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronics systems, in analyzing problems in integrated/interfacing systems involving numerous complex circuits, and in using complex electronic and electro-mechanical test and measuring equipment. Skill in the use of electronics test equipment such .as computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, waveform generators, frequency converters, telemetry simulators, and special test panels, as well as using a variety of hand tools such as soldering devices and drills. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
