Description: Responsibilities

Basic Purpose

Seeking a Construction Safety Manager with a focus on electric utility projects. The ideal candidate will be pivotal in ensuring safety protocols are implemented, maintained, and continuously improved across all project sites. This individual will lead the development and oversight of safety programs, ensuring compliance with industry standards, OSHA regulations, and company policies while fostering a culture of safety within the workforce. Develops and continually seeks to improve processes and communications that meet the changing needs of the business and assist in maintaining legal compliance. Promotes customer satisfaction through partnerships and problem-solving.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Regularly conduct safety audits, job site inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.

Oversee accident/incident investigations, including incident analyses, reporting, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Design and conduct safety training programs for all levels of the workforce, including job site safety orientation, job-specific safety procedures, fall protection, electrical hazards, and confined space training.

Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs for electric utility construction projects.

Work closely with project managers, engineers, and field staff to integrate safety into the planning and execution phases of projects. Respond to requests promptly, including after-hours and weekends. Facilitates the resolution process. Has authority to stop work because of unsafe work practices or conditions.

Monitor and evaluate contractor and subcontractor safety performance, ensuring that all job sites adhere to safety standards and practices.

Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations, including federal, state, and local safety regulations, such as OSHA, NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), and other relevant standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential Education, Skills, and Environment

Education and Work Experience

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field and 6 years of related experience in a safety management role, preferably in the electric utility industry or construction industry.

Candidates who do not possess a bachelor's degree must have at least 10 years of related work experience.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) credential (preferred).

Candidate must possess OSHA 30-hour Outreach Training for Construction within 90 days of hire.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Direct experience in transmission line construction and/or solar project construction is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Demonstrated skills such as:

  • Analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution, oral and written communication, and customer relations skills.

Equipment and Applications

PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

General office, industrial plant, and field environments. Frequent travel (up to 75%). Outdoor field and site visits may include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, and other electric utility industry exposures that may require the appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Physical demands may include lifting/carrying equipment, materials, and small tools weighing up to 50 pounds.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $115,900 (Min) to $136,300 (Mid); Up to 15% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
