Job description
Overview:
This position is responsible for supporting technical accounting research and acting as implementation lead for assigned special projects globally across AmTrust Financial Services, with a focus on driving finance process efficiency and automation, consistency in accounting policy/ financial reporting/ consolidation, resolution of technical accounting and reporting issues under multiple basis of accounting (GAAP, IFRS, Statutory), accounting for divestitures and complex transactions, integration efforts and improvement of internal controls. This position reports directly to the SVP - Global Controller & Chief Accounting Officer and will work closely with senior financial staff of both US Domestic and International Operations, Finance Transformation, Data and Information Technology. AVP / VP level dependent on years of experience and insurance industry knowledge/background.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate/support the timely and accurate research of accounting issues and policy questions across multiple basis of accounting (GAAP, IFRS, Statutory) and jurisdictions.
Ensure consistent accounting treatment and accounting policy across US Domestic, International and Bermuda entities.
Provide technical oversight on accounting for complex transactions, divestitures and integration efforts.
Lead efforts to ensure efficiency and global consistency in the financial accounting, close, consolidation and financial reporting processes. Troubleshoot and resolve issues, as needed.
Lead special projects related to finance automation and efficiency, in coordination with finance transformation, operations and IT.
Drive consistency/best practices and seek out potential areas of improvement in accounting, financial reporting and consolidation processes (e.g. workflow, automated processes, etc.).
Support adherence to the company's framework of internal controls, including the design and execution of appropriate controls.
Develop/maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders through frequent contact, professional interaction and expert guidance.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years or more of technical insurance/reinsurance accounting, accounting policy and/or financial reporting experience.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required.
Master's degree and/or CPA preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with finance system implementations and related change management activities preferred.
Ability to identify and thoughtfully solve problems in a decisive manner.
Strong collaborator/influencer: Establish and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to influence and drive change.
Working knowledge of systems and technology utilized within insurance/reinsurance, accounting and financial reporting processes.
Demonstrates the ability to implement consistent and effective processes around insurance/ reinsurance accounting and financial reporting.
Effective project management and planning skills.
Experience with International entities accounting, financial reporting and operations.
Knowledge of relevant trends and information within the industry.
Continuous improvement focused: Willing to ask questions and explore new ideas. Eager to learn and focused on continuous improvement.
The salary range for this role is $200K - $225K per year. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics. This range may be modified in the future.
