POSITION SUMMARY

The overall responsibility of the Director, Materials Management is to provide effective management for the operations of the materials management department and is responsible for all operational, technical, and personnel activities associated with assigned areas of supply chain and inventory management. This position will focus on cost, quality, and outcomes. In some instances, this position may cover more than one facility or department, including but not limited to HOPD's.

Responsibilities:
Selects, trains/orients and assigns departmental staff (either directly or through subordinate personnel. Develops standards of practice, performance metrics, evaluates performance and initiates or makes recommendations for personal actions.

Develops and monitors a variety of analytical and statistical reports to assist with departmental forecasting and purchasing decisions.

Investigates and analyzes supply cost variances and budgets; reports findings timely to necessary parties.

Develops departmental (site) goals and objectives, and establishes and implements standardized policies and procedures for department operation throughout the system.

Develops department operating budgets and ensures that departments operate within budget.

Directs the preparation and maintenance of departmental reports by site; prepares periodic reports for executive management as required. Ensures that a fiscal inventory of asset locations is conducted as required. Maintains written procedures and coordinates the effort of the inventory team throughout the system with the Regional Director of Supply Chain Operations.

Interacts effectively with vendors, internal departments, division leadership, and physicians to control new products, increase efficiencies, and mitigate price increases. Negotiates price and utilization contracts effectively, as assigned or needed.

Facilitates product conversions effectively and timely. Collaborates with vendor, internal departments, physicians, and division leadership to ensure adequate savings and clinical acceptance.

Oversees storage and issue of medical supplies and equipment, where affected. Analyzes current methods used in the processing of reusable supplies and equipment, from decontamination to assembling, packaging, storage, and makes changes as needed, exercising overall responsibility.

Maintains integrity of the Materials Management Information System to ensure that adequate supply levels are available at all sites and discrepancies are resolved quickly.

Manages and coordinates all phases of the par level storage locations, cart, and/or exchange cart in the nursing areas utilized at each site. (Chargeable and non-chargeable items, patient charge master, and the ERP system)

May establish and oversee ancillary department activities (Mail Room, linen, tanks, etc), as well as the Supply Chain fleet delivery vehicles for the delivery of equipment and products, where applicable.

Creates policies and procedures (standardized throughout Ardent) for inventory control and the issuing of supplies and equipment. Arranges and/or conducts in-services of new procedures at affected sites. Coordinates with other departments, as required.

Stays informed through Purchasing and vendor representatives on new product information. Implements changes after consultation on price, feasibility and charging with the Supply Chain Leadership Team.

Refines the interface with other departments to support excellence in patient care, promote enhanced service offerings, grow revenue, support quality parameters, and strengthen the Ardent brand

Coordinates and assists in projects and providing oversight of third-party vendors in support of business expansion initiatives

Manages supply chain and purchasing compliance with OSHA, hospital accrediting organization, DOH, CMS, etc.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject area such as business, finance, supply chain or relevant field. Relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

Seven (7) years relevant experience in Supply Chain management/leadership within healthcare or related industry

Experience in the management and oversight of multiple acute care facilities

Experience in financial and programmatic presentations preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts and build teams

ERP system, such as Lawson, preferred

Demonstrated creativity and flexibility

Ability to operate in high-pressure situations

Ability to work collaboratively across Ardent Health entities and disciplines

Demonstrated commitment to patient- and family centered care
