JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Assistant Custodian
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Hold and maintain a Black Seal license.
- Have the ability to communicate effectively.
- Have organization and communication skills.
- Be able to move, lift, and carry furniture, supplies or equipment.
- Provide required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Principal, Coordinator of Facilities, or Custodial Manager
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all staff for excellent performance.
- Follow assigned work schedules and temporary work schedules. Follow the directives of the Head Custodian.
- Keep assigned areas of the buildings and grounds, (including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas) neat, clean, and safe.
- Report for snow removal. Assist with snow and ice removal by shoveling, plowing, and/or sanding walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps.
- Check regularly the security of the building and ensure that all exit doors are operational, and that all exit hardware is working when the building is occupied. Ensure that chains are not used to secure doors.
- Scrub, clean, and disinfect daily all assigned drinking fountains, toilet floors, and sanitary fixtures.
- Wash windows and clean shades and blinds on an established, regular, and approved schedule.
- Keep all flooring attractive and clean.
- Remove graffiti immediately.
- Report immediately any damage, vandalism, or theft of equipment to your supervisor.
11. Serve in the school assigned, substituting in another school when necessary, and remain on school premises during assigned hours, unless assigned to another site.
- Remove trash daily and comply with all the laws, regulations, and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, waste and recycling.
- Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning supplies and chemicals, request replacements in a timely fashion, and store supplies and chemicals in a safe and approved manner.
- Move furniture, equipment, supplies and accept deliveries as required and requested.
- Report needed repairs promptly.
- Change all bulbs whenever any need replacement. Use fall protection as required
- Be responsible and accountable for all assigned supplies and equipment, including keys.
- Be responsible for maintaining communication with the Head Custodian and accountable for any assigned communication device (walkie-talkies, phones) daily.
- Participate in all professional development, including, safety, regulatory, Right-to-Know (RTK) and Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) training.
- Operate all equipment per manufacturer's instructions necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
- Use all supplies as directed by the manufacturer and personal protective equipment as recommended on the Safety Data sheets.
- Operate all equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
- Make recommendations for improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of custodial operations of the school.
- Attend required meetings and serve as appropriate on staff committees.
- Display a cooperative and pleasant attitude at all times, particularly when in the presence of staff, students, and community visitors.
- Notify and assist the administration and appropriate emergency personnel of any emergency, and potentially dangerous or unusual situations.
- Demonstrate positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and in an effective work ethic.
- Possess sufficient strength to lift items as much as fifty (50) pounds and be able to move them around.
29. Possess sufficient strength and dexterity to operate the equipment and tools necessary for the cleaning of the facilities.
- Possess the stamina to stand and walk for periods as long as two (2) hours without discomfort.
- Possess the ability to climb and work off of a ladder.
- Adhere to New Jersey school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Perform all other duties as required by law, code or Board policy.
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Superintendent, or his designee may assign from time to time and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Conditions established by laws and codes of New Jersey; and policies, rules, and regulations established by the Passaic Board of Education.
- Non-Tenurable.
