BUS DRIVER Description: Position Summary Transport students to and from schools and to recreational activities or field trips. May assist passengers in boarding or exiting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Drives bus safely to transport pupils over specified routes. Performs pre and post trip inspections. Attends required trainings. Maintains order among pupils during trip. Produces required documents in reporting issues or incidents. Complies with local traffic regulations. Reports delays or accidents. 8. Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort. 9. Helps passengers, including those with disabilities, get into and out of the vehicle. 10. Obeys traffic laws and Tribal Council regulations. 11. Inspects bus and checks gas, oil, and water levels. 12. Cleans bus after each route. 13. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to report to work based upon the assigned scheduled each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for Pueblo Sandia. Additional Responsibilities Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Supports a single function and holds a position that does not supervise people but provides guidance to lower-level Team Members as needed. Performs all duties with professionalism, courtesy and respect with all internal/external contacts. Functions as an advisor to management due to the complexity of the level of work performed. May hold current licenses, certifications, specialized education, and possess stipulated technical expertise as required. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in all aspects of the specialized function. Critical thinking and the ability to analyze issues, identify solutions, and implement them effectively. Key Performance Indicators This position has Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) identified as a measurement of success. KPI's will be shared with all team members who work in this job title and feedback will be provided regarding the successful completion of the KPI's as part of the performance review process. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of New Mexico State Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting students. Knowledge of operational characteristics of school transportation vehicle. Knowledge of policies and procedures governing the reporting of vehicle accidents and incidents. Knowledge of principles and practices of first aid and CPR. Knowledge of methods and techniques of basic vehicle preventative maintenance. Knowledge of methods and techniques of enforcing safety regulations on a school transportation vehicle. Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping. Knowledge of safe driving practices as they relate to school transportation. Ability to meet schedules and deadlines. Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information in the course of work. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Requirements: Education and Experience Required: High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent. Note: Relevant wok experience or education may be subsumptive to satisfy the education or work experience requirement. License/Certifications/Registrations Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted (CDL) NM Commercial Driver's License B with Passenger (P) and School Bus Endorsement (S). Must successfully complete other training within 30 days to six (6) months (depending on training required) of hire date such as: CPR, First Aide, Blood borne pathogens, health and safety training. Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation. Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The following selected physical activities are required to perform the essential functions of this position Physical Requirement Description Balancing Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Climbing Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion. Crawling Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Crouching Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Feeling Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Finger Dexterity Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Grasping Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Hearing Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. Kneeling Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Lifting Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Pulling Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion. Pushing Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward. Reaching Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Seeing The ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Walking Job requirements include, in the performance of duties, walking throughout the work area, on various work surfaces throughout internal or external locations. Seeing The ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Sitting Particularly for sustained periods of time. Standing Particularly for sustained periods of time. Stooping Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Working Conditions Required: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outside work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. Work hours subject to change with overtime work required. Subject to hazards which may cause personal bodily harm; smoke; diseases; cuts bruises, burns, common cold, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
