Job description

BlueHalo is seeking an early career Systems Engineer with a focus on Control Systems in our Acquisition, Tracking, and Pointing (ATP) Division. The ATP Division of BlueHalo is responsible for next generation Directed Energy (High-Energy Laser) and EO/IR Systems. In this role, you will be responsible for deriving requirements, designing, and optimizing controls for EO/IR systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware and software, ensuring seamless functionality, reliability, and performance of gimbaled high energy laser systems. Key Responsibilities: Contribute to the development of systems engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirement's Specifications, Interface Control Documents, System Integration Plans, and Test Plans Being responsible for the requirements generation, analysis, decomposition, and review with customers Analyze user's requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system/subsystem requirements specifications Manage system requirements and lead design/development activities Develop system architecture and system design documentation Support lab and field test/acceptance testing Optimize PID Control Loops Develop and executing subsystem and system level testing - both in engineering development and field test environments Manage and maintain a large assortment of field test equipment include an assortment of drones, network, and other measurement equipment Writing technical documentation including test reports and technical presentations Design and Develop Control Systems: Develop algorithms and implement control strategies to ensure precision, stability, and performance Systems Integration: Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to integrate control systems with sensors, actuators, and hardware components Modeling and Simulation: Create and validate models of systems using simulation tools to predict performance and troubleshoot issues Programming: Write and optimize code for real-time control systems in languages such as C/C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink Testing and Validation: Develop test procedures and run experiments to validate control system performance and make improvements as needed Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in real-time systems. Collaboration: Work with a multidisciplinary team to support system design, testing, and production phases Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of control systems designs, algorithms, and performance tests You're Required to Have This: Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance. Proven experience in developing control systems or automated systems. Programming skills in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB/Simulink. Hands-on experience with sensors, actuators, and embedded systems. Knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, and control theory. Strong technical writing skills applicable to engineering documentation (analysis reports, specifications, requirements documents, etc.). Maintain thorough records of test plans, results, and issues, and prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders. Drive continuous improvement initiatives in the testing process, including the introduction of new tools, methodologies, and best practices oversee the testing process. Desired Qualification: Master's degree engineering. Knowledge of industrial robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other controls systems. Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) or embedded software development. Familiarity with hardware interfaces such as CAN, I2C, and SPI. Active Secret or Top-Secret DoD security clearance and eligibility. Experience with Military Systems. Experience with Directed Energy Systems. Knowledge of how to use general lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DSA, function generator, lab supply, etc.). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate complex technical concepts effectively. Experience with EO/IR systems. Strong communication skills. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks concurrently. Ability to work in a team environment and lead small projects or teams. Salary Range: $68k - $80k The BlueHalo pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
