Job description
Hope For Youth OASAS Primary Prevention Program provides children, adults, families and community stakeholder with the education, support, and tools needed to refrain from engaging in substance and alcohol use. The OASAS Primary Prevention Program utilizes evidence-based models and psycho educational presentations to reach community members.
Hope for Youth's OASAS licensed program is hiring a part time 21 hour a week Substance Use Prevention Specialist. The Prevention program is grant program through New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for presenting an evidenced based curriculum, "Too Good for Drugs," in elementary school classrooms located in the Town of Babylon. The Specialist will also be responsible for attending and leading community awareness events in the Town of Babylon. The intent of the program is to provide elementary school age children with the skills needed to refrain from engaging in alcohol and substance use and to raise awareness in the community.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Computer skills are essential.
Job Duties:
- Function within the policies and procedures as outlined in program practice guide and employee manual
- Adhere to state regulations and applicable code of conduct
- Work within an interdisciplinary team to assist client in their overall functioning and achieve desired outcomes
- Developing, planning and conducting education programs for elementary students utilizing the "Too Good For Drugs" Curriculum created by the Mendez Foundation.
- Implementing strategies to raise awareness of alcohol and drug related issues in the community.
- Conducting surveys of alcohol and drug related issues to develop new prevention/education
- Developing, planning, and coordinating community events on gambling awareness, prevention and substance awareness and prevention
- Attend trainings and professional development as assigned
- Attend meetings as assigned
- Apply agency-identified Evidence Based Interventions best suited to meet the client's needs.
- Other resulting and necessary work to meet the needs and requirements of the clients, the program, Hope For Youth, oversight agency and any other regulatory obligations
Job Requirements:
- Must have a bachelor's degree or higher.
- Must have at least one year of experience working with children and adolescents.
- Demonstrated computer literacy including Microsoft Office and electronic medical record system, upon hire, 10e11.
- Physical Requirements: Lift/move up to fifty (50) pounds, escort children and youth into the community using stairs when necessary, restrain a child or youth during a crisis, read/write reports and log entries, walking/standing for prolonged periods, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, repetitive wrist/finger movements, driving own vehicle
This part-time opportunity is being offered as part- time, 17.50 hours a week, flexible, some weekends
