Responsibilities:
The Operations Management Trainee Program is intended to prepare individuals to become supervisors and managers of frontline employees. In this program, most of the day is spent in the field interacting and supervising drivers and helper as you learn how to manage employees in a union environment. Your duties will include ensuring employees work safely and responsibly, optimize operating efficiency, improving customer satisfaction, and leading and implement programs contributing to company profitability.

This is a rotational program with participants spending six months to a year in various positions as they learn the Operations side of the IWS business.

First Rotation

Primary Responsibilities:

Learn a working knowledge of the waste management business practices for NYC.

Develop knowledge of customer routing, logistics, sales, safety, and general business practices.

Develop skills and abilities needed to successfully supervise and direct the work of drivers, helpers, and other frontline employees.

Ensure employees have the needed equipment and personal protective equipment to safely perform their duties.

Develop a strong understanding of IWS Safety Programs, DOT and OSHA rules and regulations.

Complete required paperwork and use software programs to enter operational data.

Partner with managers, supervisors, drivers, and helpers to develop knowledge of IWS business and operational practices and procedures.

Conduct investigations as needed to regarding employee and/or customer issues.

Collaborate with different departments to learn day-to-day business operations.

Learn DOT and OSHA rules and regulations required for managing drivers and helpers in the NYC market.

Develop skills and abilities needed to create and modify driver routes to improve driver efficiency.

Observe drivers while on routes, coach to correct issues and remove unsafe conditions from driver routes.

Interview and evaluating candidates for driver and other front-line positions.

Partner with the maintenance department to ensure all equipment remains in working order and in compliance with safety standards.

Oversee effective safety and accident prevention programs to ensure all reasonable actions are taken to prevent accidents and injuries; ensure a safe and productive work environment for all employees; implement and maintain an effective safety program.

Engage assigned employees in active participation to instill a culture of safety by demonstration of a personal commitment to safe operations and active personal outreach to operational employees.

Participate in required meetings and training programs.

Qualifications:
Requirement:

A bachelor's or associate degree, or a high school diploma or GED and two years of relevant leadership experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Willing to work outdoors, weekends, evenings and overnight.

Ability to read and administer a collective bargaining contract.

Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Strong verbal and written communications skills

Time management and organizational skills to plan work.

Current driver's license and no disqualifying violations on MVR.

Comfortable driving in New York

Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Experience supervising employees a plus

Ability to speak Spanish a plus.

Salary Range Minimum:
USD $65,000.00/Yr.

Salary Range Maximum:
USD $70,000.00/Yr.
