Job description
Duties Independently performs a broad range of law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, force protection, access control, traffic control, and community policing. Handles volatile situations such as terrorist attacks, hostage situations, and armed robbery. Performs traffic duties including directing traffic and issuing tickets for vehicle operation and parking violations. Writes incident and activity reports, advises suspects of their rights and arrests suspects. Directs, escorts, and protects VIPs and visitors. Conducts searches of facilities where a threat (bomb, weapons, or other explosive devices) may exist. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. At the GS-06 grade level must attend the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date, unless a waiver is approved from Office of the Provost Marshal General, IAW AR 190-56. Incumbent must be able to successfully gain and pass training certification related to police work functions. This position requires successfully completion of a pre-employment physical and recurring medical evaluation thereafter. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing. The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position. Position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position. During Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions incumbent must be able to continue to perform duties. Incumbent must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and government motor vehicle operator's license. Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime. Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 20% of the time may be required. Requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. Incumbent is expected to maintain a high standard of conduct; and when being considered for employment and periodically thereafter, must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program. Position requires the incumbent to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer. Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation. Specialized Experience for GS-06 level: One year of specialized experience which includes:(1) Maintaining order and protecting life and/or property; (2) Responding to emergency/non-emergency situations; and (3) Completing police reports and/or forms. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Education Some federal positions allow substitution for of education for experience. For this position, you must qualify based on experience alone.
