Dentist opening in New York State
Located in Houghton, NY
65 miles to Buffalo, NY
Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) is currently seeking a general dentist. We are looking for someone motivated to help serve a rural population as well as an interest in growing and developing the dental program. The dentist would provide quality oral healthcare services as defined by NYS Practice Act, in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Commissioner of Education and according to Program policies and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Have thorough knowledge of the specific dental needs of children, adults, and geriatric patients with complicated medical histories, and will demonstrate knowledge in advanced diagnostic and surgical procedures, along with child psychology and clinical management, oral pathology, pharmacology, radiology, child development, management of oral/facial trauma, and care for patients with special needs.
- Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases, abnormalities, injuries, and dysfunctional disorders of the oral cavity and its associated structures.
- Examines patients and interprets radiographs and diagnostic tests.
- Evaluates findings and prescribes type, extent, and order of treatment required.
- Restores health and function of carious, fractured, or otherwise defective teeth.
- Provides consultation services.
- Monitors quality of patient care, infection control and safety procedures.
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required.
- Provides clinical supervision for RDH and Dental Assistant.

Requirements
- Requires the ability to visualize end results of several related functions involved in the integrated tasks of own work and the work of others subject to check and approval; to develop and coordinate work procedures to attain results within broad guidelines; to apply established policy and practices of the position to the analysis and resolution of work problems independently and to detect exceptional cases for referral.
- Tactile sensitivity and high level of manual dexterity for use of dental instrumentation.
- Must have a Doctorate in Dentistry
- Minimum one (1) year experience (which may include residency year)
- Child Abuse Reporting Certificate
- Infection Control Training Certificate
- Tobacco Control Continuing Education Certificate
- CPR Certification
- New York State Dental License.
- Must possess good organizational skills, ability to interact with a wide variety of patient types, and must be schedule-oriented. Must be able to maintain balance between delivery of quality services and revenue expectations. Must be exceptional in ability to manage patients.
