Job description

Duties You will review existing Ship Installation Drawings (SIDs) and equipment technical manuals to determine characteristics of temporary services required. You will perform Ship-checks and inspects shore facilities to verify arrangement and to identify locations for new equipment, connection points to ship's systems, and associated piping runs. You will review ship's system diagrams and NAVSEA instructions to identify systems required to be steam plant clean to ensure TWDs comply with all required specifications. You will provide direction for procurement of material and services associated with the assigned projects, ensuring specifications describe completely the material, operating parameters, and any special requirements to permit competitive bidding. You will identify material costs and production man-hours required for all phases of tasking for incorporation into Job Summaries and for preplanning use by shipyard customers. You will develop and maintain temporary service sketches and adjusts sketches as required as result of critiques and process improvement. You will coordinate the efforts on design engineering projects with personnel from other engineering codes or from other activities when a satisfactory conclusion is dependent upon the performance of several activities. You will provide waterfront support during execution of temporary service system installation, removal, modification and repair, and loss of steam plant cleanliness evaluation and recovery. You will resolve problems encountered during installation, removal, grooming, or testing phases of temporary systems, and during installation, repair, and drying of shipboard steam plant clean systems. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying mechanical engineering concepts, principles, methods, precedents, and techniques with comprehensive, intensive, and practical knowledge. Experience applying the latest developments and techniques in solving and identifying problems, evaluating and recommending solutions. Experience applying design experience and technical knowledge of engineering aspects unique to nuclear-powered subs and aircraft carriers. Experience preparing advance planning Technical Work Documents (TWDs) in the form of Engineering drawings, Job Summaries, Task Group Instructions (TGis), Production Estimates, testing, and material procurement documents for installation, removal, modification, repair, and maintenance of temporary service systems, and maintaining and recovering from loss of cleanliness on shipboard steam plant clean systems. Experience using temporary service systems knowledge that includes but are not limited to fire protection, service steam, auxiliary seawater, high pressure and ships service air, chilled water, ventilation, steam plant cleanliness audits and surveillances, and a broad knowledge of production shop practices and policies. Experience determining the cost and availability of material using various data bases along with ordering requirements, knowledgeable of ordering codes.
