Position Overview

The Director, Student Experience & Restorative Justice Practice - Elementary Schools is responsible for strategically planning and executing the implementation of regional initiatives around student experience and Restorative Practices as well as driving and coaching restorative practices, including professional development at the KIPP NYC elementary schools. The role will also be responsible for looking at data systems pertaining to discipline and violations to code of conduct to support data analysis to Improve current practices and inform vision long term planning.

The Director, Student Experience & Restorative Justice Practice - Elementary Schools will consult with school-based personnel to create professional development opportunities and school policies to help KIPP NYC elementary schools become more restorative settings. Through deliberate practice, observation, and feedback process of professional development, the Director will empower school-based personnel to facilitate restorative practices and policies at our elementary schools. Additionally, the Director will collaborate across departments to ensure there are aligned affirming inputs for the student experience. This work will contribute to creating joyful and affirming identity school experiences and support our Graduate Aims work to ensure a truly equitable learning community. This role will report to the Chief Equity Officer.

Vision: In order to uphold our commitment to Equity and promote a Culturally Responsive and Identity Affirming System, we need to have an aligned K-12 vision on affirming inputs to student experience that enhance Resilience, elevate student voice, critical consciousness and leadership.

This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. Cadence and frequency of travel to schools is determined by your leadership team. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC. It is important that you notify HR if you move or have plans to relocate.

General Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

Manage assigned KIPP NYC schools with regular visits that include strength based observations to enhance Restorative Practices and monitoring progress towards school based goals.

Oversee capacity building for school based staff in order to drive the development of restorative practices and policies.

Create, deliberately practice, observe, and provide feedback on professional development sessions for and with school-based personnel.

Liaise with outside organizations that can provide additional opportunities for student and staff development.

Leverage school self assessment tools in restorative practices to enable feedback processes.

Support KIPP, NYC Equity Initiatives by collaborating with regional student support services team, teaching and learning team and DEI Coordinators to analyze data and strategize toward driving outcomes for students.

Monitor data including suspension data, DASA and Title IX incidents as well as Dean's List

Lead Professional Development and build a learning community for Deans and culture leaders across the region.

Design, facilitate, and bring in Restorative Practices and DEI trainings aimed at creating consistent, effective, and aligned practices across the KIPP NYC region.

Provide coaching, mentorship, observation, and feedback to Deans and culture leaders across the region.

Ensure schools are adhering to the Code of Conduct, Disciplinary Practices within the context of our approved charter.

Support Advisory structure including observations and serve as point person for monitoring both quantitative and qualitative elements are included to serve SEL, RP and Graduate Aims.

Train Deans and other leaders on culture enhancing systems such as DeansList and Securely to ensure consistent and effective use of those systems.

Create a clear and aligned set of supports and guidelines to help Deans and culture leaders achieve similar results and standards across the region.

Model excellence in driving restorative practices, policies, and mindsets within core role.
