Job description

A community services organization in New York City is looking to add a licensedOccupational Therapist (OT) to join their team at one of their schools throughout the 5 boroughs. In this role, the Occupational Therapist (OT) will be responsible for assessing student's motor skills and developing & implementing goals designed to enhance the students learning potential.

About the Opportunity:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Assignment Length: Ongoing
  • Setting:School-based
  • Hours: 8am to 2:30pm
  • Patient Population: Pediatric IDD
  • Patient Volume: 10 sessions per day
Responsibilities:

The Occupational Therapist (OT) will:
  • Make observations during preliminary screening of new students, and/or ongoing evaluations of students enrolled in the school
  • Write a full description of the childs performance and behavior during evaluation referencing sensory processing, perceptual skills and/or deficits
  • Make suggestions for approaches and activities that might enhance the student's abilities
  • Take part in developing staff development and parent workshop opportunities around the development of gross motor, fine motor, and perceptual skills, and related underlying sensory and motor functions
  • Develop a series of developmentally-graded activities based on evaluation, designed to improve sensory processing, fine and gross motor skills, and perceptual skills
  • Carry out medical prescriptions for OT
  • Maintain mandated documentation of treatment and progress (e.g., individual treatment session and quarterly progress notes, Related Service Attendance, etc.)
  • Submit a written report of the progress of the children at the end of each school year
  • Make recommendations for IEP goals and participate as required in IEP conferences
  • Maintain OT equipment and supplies, and recommend ordering them as required by IEP mandates or needed clinically
  • Perform other duties, as needed
Qualifications:
  • 1+ year of experience working with the Pediatric population
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • NYS Occupational Therapist (OT) license
  • Solid assessment, clinical, and documentation skills
  • Patient oriented
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized
