Context:
The Construction Manager for the BRT project will oversee and manage all construction activities, ensuring that project milestones and quality standards are met while maintaining safety and compliance with local regulations. The successful candidate will coordinate with engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve efficient construction processes and timely project delivery. This role requires strong leadership, an in-depth understanding of construction management principles, and experience in large-scale transportation or urban infrastructure projects.
Missions/Main Duties:
Project Planning and Coordination:Develop and manage construction schedules, resource allocation, and project timelines to meet established milestones and deadlines.
Coordinate with engineering and design teams to ensure construction alignment with approved plans and specifications.
Serve as the main point of contact for contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and collaboration.
Quality and Compliance Management:Oversee quality assurance and control processes on-site, ensuring construction work meets specified standards and adheres to local regulations.
Conduct regular inspections to verify adherence to project specifications and regulatory compliance, addressing any deviations promptly.
Ensure that all construction activities are compliant with safety standards, environmental guidelines, and project-specific requirements.
Risk and Issue Management:Identify potential construction risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them proactively.
Manage on-site issues, delays, and challenges, providing solutions to minimize impact on the project schedule and budget.
Maintain a contingency plan for critical path activities to ensure continuous progress.
Budget and Resource Management:Track and manage construction budgets, ensuring effective cost control and efficient resource allocation.
Approve construction-related expenses and monitor financial performance, addressing any budgetary discrepancies.
Collaborate with the procurement team for timely ordering and delivery of materials, tools, and equipment.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):Enforce Systra's HSE policies and practices on-site, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.
Conduct regular safety briefings and training sessions to promote awareness and adherence to safety standards.
Lead accident investigation and root cause analysis if incidents occur, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Reporting and Documentation:Prepare and submit regular progress reports, documenting key performance metrics, challenges, and achievements.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of construction activities, changes, and approvals for audit and quality assurance purposes.
Support the preparation of project handover documentation, including as-built drawings and completion certificates.
Profile/Skills:
Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Advanced certifications in construction management or project management are a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in construction management, with a focus on large infrastructure or transportation projects, ideally in Bus Rapid Transit or similar urban transit systems.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and familiarity with construction management tools.
Knowledge of relevant construction codes, standards, and local regulatory requirements.
Strong understanding of civil, structural, and utilities aspects related to transportation infrastructure.
Soft Skills:
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and lead a diverse on-site team.
Effective communication and negotiation skills for interfacing with contractors, clients, and regulatory authorities.
Strong problem-solving abilities and resilience under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience managing construction for BRT, metro, or other urban transit infrastructure projects.
Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or construction management (e.g., CCM).
Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and HSE management.
