Responsibilities:
The Unit Secretary performs duties appropriate to the area of clinical practice. Directs and coordinates the activities at the nurse's station. Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu by fostering an awareness of the Behavioral Health Services population. Communicates respect by honoring personal space and using a non threatening/non challenging/ non judgmental approach. The Unit Secretary performs duties appropriate to the area of clinical practice. Performs routine clerical tasks including order entry/data retrieval, as appropriate to the clinical area ( EKG, Lab Order)
Manages patient's record/charts both electronically and hard copy. Ensures that the appropriate/required signatures are in-place. Prepare, assist and follows through with "Downtime" procedures.

Greets and assists patients, visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff. Answers telephones and verbally communicates effectively, responding promptly to general information, requesting and conveying messages. Participates in maintaining complete, accurate medical records, and current patient/unit data within the information system, and on appropriate forms. Performs routine clerical tasks including order entry/data retrieval, as appropriate to the clinical area. Ensure Medicare patients have their IM (important message for medicare ) form signed prior to discharge. Transport/escort the patients: admissions, discharges, laboratory, and radiology and security office. Assists in providing prompt response to patients' call systems, refers requests promptly and appropriately. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patients' rights. Maintains patient confidentiality. Maintains effective and timely communication with nurses, other staff, patients and families. Keeps nurses' station clean and clutter free. Maintains cooperative working relationships and supports staff in the performance of their duties. Monitors unit inventory and use of supplies; communicates problems to the Nursing Manager and Materials Management Department. Reports maintenance repair requests and monitors for completion. Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications:
Experience/traing in Medical Terminology, computers, and clerical receptionist responsibilities preferred.

Medical database system or Meditech knowledge preferred.

Excellent communication and customer service orientation required.

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
