Are you a married Christian couple with a passion for shaping young lives? If so, we have an exceptional opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of children. As a House Parent Couple, you'll provide holistic care, nurturing, and guidance to children in a loving, safe, and Christian environment.

This unique position requires a commitment of 7 days on (24 hours a day) followed by 7 days off. Your primary responsibility will be the overall well-being of the children in your care, assisting them in their daily routines, offering emotional support, and creating a home environment that encourages growth and learning.

We believe in the power of community and will provide ample support to ensure your success. This includes an education coordinator who works with the school system and a team of tutors, a comprehensive recreation program for physical and social development, vehicles for transportation, and dedicated social workers/team leaders.

Requirements Include:

Note: We are seeking House Parent Couples who are assigned to a specific cottage on an ongoing basis, as well as one couple who could serve as floating house parents to fill in during vacations, etc.

Responsible to: Residential Case Coordinator (RCC)/Team Leader and Senior House Parent Couple
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and be a strong Christian witness in all interactions with youth, staff, donors, volunteers, and the general public so as to uphold Black Mountain Home's mission of Glorifying God by caring for children and families.
  • Commit to pray regularly for the youth, staff, and ministry.
  • Work to provide for the needs of up to nine resident children/youth in a designated house during a seven-day, alternate-week shift; teach children/youth basic living skills; work to obtain Home and outside services for children/youth needs beyond the House Parent Couple's ability to provide; work closely with Senior House Parent Couple and RCC/Team Leader.
  • Provide with affection and respect, comprehensive individualized services and care to each child/youth within the guidance of the Code of Living, Personnel Policies, and other Home policy documents.
  • Carry out directions set forth by Senior House Parent Couple and RCC/Team Leader to ensure that house rules, Code of Living, Personnel Policies, and other Home policies and procedures are followed.
  • Work with the Senior House Parent Couple and RCC/Team Leader for the designated house to provide meaningful sharing of information on each child/youth; meet weekly to share written information, discuss changes or problems; set house rules.
  • Document, as directed, the children's needs, experiences, and progress while receiving Home services.
  • Work with the Team Leader assigned to the house to coordinate outside appointments, family contacts, and evaluate the needs and progress of each child/youth as required to meet state regulations and accepted standards of care.
  • Working through the RCC/Team Leader, work with the Director of Finance to request and receive needed monies, supplies, and equipment to meet group and individual needs in the designated house.
  • Work with the Buildings and Grounds Coordinator to meet special maintenance and repair needs of the designated house.
  • Plan recreation activities for the youth in the house and support the Recreation Coordinator in recreation activities planned for the entire campus.
  • Work with and support the Education Coordinator to help meet the educational needs of the youth in the house.
  • Support the other member of the House Parent Couple to provide a period of relief for each member each day.
  • Divide the tasks and responsibilities between the two members of the House Parent Couple to match, where possible, the temperament and gifts of the two individuals.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings which include participation in a time of Christian devotion and prayer.
  • Participate in and supervise youth at weekly worship services at Valley Hope Church and at other pre-approved, Christian denominations in the community.
  • Lead daily, Christian devotions that are appropriate and relevant to the youth in the house.
  • Problem solve as needed.
  • Other projects as requested.
