Job description
OVERVIEW
The Refrigeration Department Manager will be responsible for the oversight of the employees of the refrigeration department as well as ensuring the proper upkeep and function of the PSM program. The manager must have the ability to read schematics, maintain, PM, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of ammonia refrigeration equipment, steam boilers and associated equipment, hot water systems, HVAC equipment, air compressors, auger chillers, water pumps, along with all support and building services.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Provide supervisory oversight and leadership guidance to all refrigeration personnel in the department.
Manage departmental budget.
Coordinate the procurement of all materials and needed supplies for the department.
Review department payroll on a weekly basis.
Handle disciplines and grievances within the department.
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding controlled chemicals.
Ensure safe and efficient operation of all refrigeration, boilers, and chemical equipment in the facility through the administration of a preventive maintenance program.
Ensure equipment is in working order and working conditions and are safe at all times.
Manage overall refrigeration work quality and completion of tasks to ensure all standards and specifications are met.
Assist employees with troubleshooting problems and coaching them through making the correct adjustments.
Staff, train, evaluate, and develop team members.
Champion for company-wide safety programs and initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience in systems holding over 10,000 lbs. of ammonia.
CARO or CIRO Certified preferred.
Experience with PSM and RMP programs compliance.
Excellent communication skills.
In-depth knowledge of refrigeration operations or transferable skill sets from the food manufacturing process in a similar industry.
Ability to work with computers, Office programs, as well as payroll, attendance, and performance tracking software.
2-5 years' experience managing hourly associates at the frontline level, preferably in poultry processing.
In-depth knowledge of applicable fields, like pneumatics, plumbing, electricity, hydraulics, and general refrigeration of industrial equipment.
Certifications and/or schooling in ammonia systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work in a standing position for the duration of the shift.
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment as needed (Occasional heavy lifting, frequent lifting up to 25 pounds).
Ability to access equipment for repairs (squat, bend, kneel).
Ability to climb and work off ladders and working platforms.
Must be able to qualify to wear a Full-Face Respirator and SCBA Equipment. working with electronics and PLC's.
Ability to work safely with a wide range of chemicals Ability to fill out forms and record daily activities.
