Job description

Duties Responsible for the development and conduct of the psychological assessment element of the Command's assessment and selection process. Develops new methodology for conducting interviews, psychometric assessment, and indirect psychological assessment to evaluate the reliability and suitability of candidates for unique and high stress assignments. Researches, develops and improves overall assessment methodologies, both for psychologists and other evaluators, advising on any technical problems that may exist while recommending and developing new solutions. Serves as a senior behavioral health provider and referral source for unit members and their families. Responsible for the psychological assessment of candidates for the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) training, operational assignments, and Peacetime Governmental Hostage Detention/Hostage Detention (PGDHD) training. Develops and conducts training, studies and special projects pertinent to the command. Requirements Conditions of Employment A professional background that includes experience with Department of Defense, Special Operations, Intelligence Agencies, Law Enforcement or similar. Professional background in this area does not need to be as a psychologist. Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET (SCI) security clearance based on a single scope background investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for sensitive compartment information (SCI). Hold a current state license to practice psychology. Must be willing to participate in stressful, physically demanding training. Drug testing is required. In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, the incumbent of this position must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to employment and periodically thereafter. Must be willing and able to participate in temporary duty in CONUS and OCONUS 25% of the time. Employee required to wear a pager and is subject to short notice recall. A pre-employment deployable physical is required. This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour. This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Psychologist: Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts with your application. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing personnel assessment and selection services; coaching individuals and teams for performance enhancement; providing command consultation services regarding individual and organizational development; managing the commands multiple behavioral health programs; developing assessment methodologies for psychologists and/or other evaluators; and diagnosing psychological and emotional problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Selective Placement Factor: This position requires applicants to possess a current, active, valid, unrestricted counseling/psychologist license from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
