Job description
The Assistant Director of Communications at LatinxEd is essential in driving our mission to advance Latine leadership and educational equity across North Carolina. This position calls for a dynamic and bilingual communicator who thrives in a collaborative, hybrid environment and is passionate about storytelling that inspires action. Working closely with senior leadership and various team members, you will shape and implement strategies that resonate with diverse audiences, particularly our Latine community. This role involves creating compelling content that amplifies our impact, engages media outlets, and fosters deeper connections with our community. We are looking for someone who can skillfully elevate our brand through cohesive and powerful storytelling, ensuring our voice remains unified and impactful across all platforms.
Strategic Communications & Public Relations
Develop, execute, and monitor a strategic communications plan to increase LatinxEd's visibility, brand awareness, and thought leadership within North Carolina and beyond.
Build and maintain strong relationships with press, media outlets, and journalists to elevate LatinxEd's presence in public discourse.
Serve as the primary media contact, responding to press inquiries, preparing press kits, and crafting media statements in English and Spanish.
Identify and pitch stories to media outlets that highlight LatinxEd's impact, programs, and the broader issues affecting Latine education.
Content Creation & Management
Craft compelling, culturally affirming content in both English and Spanish for LatinxEd's digital platforms, including newsletters, social media, blogs, website updates, press releases, reports, and fundraising materials.
Collaborate with internal teams to produce multimedia content that tells LatinxEd's story, amplifies our programs, and engages key stakeholders.
Utilize Spanish and Spanglish where appropriate to reflect our brand voice and ensure accessibility for diverse audiences.
Digital Marketing & Engagement
Develop and implement marketing strategies to enhance LatinxEd's digital presence, increasing engagement and reach across social media channels, email campaigns, and the website.
Analyze digital analytics and communication metrics to assess the impact of campaigns, identify trends, and adjust strategies as needed.
Coordinate with external vendors for digital marketing, graphic design, and videography projects to ensure alignment with brand guidelines.
Collaboration & Development Support
Support fundraising and development efforts by creating communication materials that engage donors, funders, and stakeholders.
Work closely with the Advancement team to develop integrated communication strategies that elevate LatinxEd's mission and impact.
Serve as a thought partner in developing innovative media strategies and policy advocacy initiatives that align with LatinxEd's goals.
Opportunity to participate in or coordinate live virtual events
Attend various staff, development, and admin team meetings
Perform tasks and work on ad hoc projects as needed to assist with communications and fundraising
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
At least 3-5 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field, ideally within the non-profit or education sector.
Proven experience in developing and executing strategic communications plans.
Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to craft narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
Familiarity with media outreach, press engagement, and building relationships with journalists.
Tech-savvy with experience using digital communication tools, email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), content management systems, and social media management tools (e.g., Later, Canva).
Ability to adapt to a hybrid work environment, demonstrating excellent communication and collaboration skills in remote settings.

CompensationWe are looking for candidates who are available to work full-time (40-48 hours/week) in North Carolina. Please note this position is hybrid (remote and in-person) and requires flexibility to travel. Annual compensation for this salaried position will range from $55,000 to $65,000.
Note: All positions at LatinxEd, including this role, are supported by grants and private foundations, as we are a non-profit organization. While the continuation of roles depends on the availability of funding and the performance of employees, we are committed to sustaining our team through strategic fundraising and resource development efforts.
Hiring Timeline
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with a final deadline of November 15th, 2024. Finalist candidates may be asked to undergo a virtual and/or in-person interview process depending on the schedule. The latest start date for this position is January 6th, 2025. However, we are open to an earlier start date dependent on our candidate pool and due diligence process.
