Overview:
WHO are we looking for?
CAPTRUST is seeking a Director to lead the corporate tax function in a multi-tiered tax structure. The Director of Tax will be responsible for overseeing all of the company's tax planning, compliance, and reporting activities. This role requires a deep understanding of partnership (and S-Corporation) tax matters along with tax matters associated with acquisitions and compensatory tax matters associated with stock-based compensation. The Director of Tax will serve as the primary contact with outside tax professionals, applicable taxing authorities, and the internal finance and leadership teams. They will maintain the highest professional and ethical standards, be well-organized, service-oriented, collaborative, and accountable. Primary responsibilities may include the following, amongst others:
Responsibilities:
Manage the preparation and filing of all tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations
Manage the quarterly estimated tax process
Manage the relationship with the external tax advisors
Coordinate with external tax advisors and auditors to support tax planning initiatives, resolve tax issues, and manage tax audits
Provide guidance (but not tax advice) and support to internal stakeholders on tax-related matters
Monitor changes in applicable tax laws and regulations) and advise management on potential impacts to the partners' tax position
Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including tax authorities, regulatory agencies, and industry peers, to stay informed of emerging trends and best practices in partnership and S-Corporation taxation
Prepare and present tax-related reports and presentations to Senior Management and the Board of Directors, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision making
Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize partners' tax positions and minimize tax liabilities, considering partnership tax rules governing pass-through entities and flow-through income
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting
CPA designation required
7+ years of progressive experience in tax accounting, with at least three years in a leadership role overseeing tax functions for a large company or public accounting firm, with expertise in partnership tax rules
Desired Qualifications/Skills:
Deep knowledge of federal and state tax laws with specific expertise in partnership taxation, and other pass-through entities (such as S-corporations)
Experience with compensatory tax matters related to stock-based compensation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization on tax issues
Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance in all tax-related activities
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage competing priorities
