Job type: fulltime
Job industry: Healthcare & Medical
Job description
To prospective teammates,
I'm the medical director for Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio. I have been a part of Sound for under one year. I'm proud of the hospitalist practice we have built and welcome interest from nocturnist physicians coming out of training or desiring a career change. I want to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:
People- We are a closely knit, established team of 21 physicians and six advanced practice providers (APPs), with the support of a clinical performance nurse and hospitalist coordinator. Nine physicians and two APPs provide inpatient coverage daily (7 am-7 pm). Two physicians work swing shifts to assist with admissions. One physician and one APP provide night coverage (7 pm-7 am).
- Our providers come from various places worldwide, including Palestine, India, the Philippines, and the United States (OH, PA, MI).
- Our providers are members of numerous committees within the organization. These include infection prevention, clinical documentation excellence, inpatient sepsis, pharmacy and therapeutics, patient safety, antimicrobial stewardship, and a readmission committee.
- Many team members have families and enjoy getting together outside the workplace. Their hobbies include soccer, hiking, eating, cooking, golfing, traveling, cricket, shopping, and bowling. We will get together for a large cookout once or twice a year as a group.
- We proudly sponsor H1b candidates, and Sound has excellent in-house visa specialists and our licensing and credentialing experts. All required filing fees for the visa are paid, and services are covered by Sound.
- We welcome the challenge of complex cases. The ICU at Mercy Hospital is closed to intensivists. The hospitalists are not responsible for codes or procedures. A team of ICU APPs covers all the codes. Currently, we admit patients to the CCU with cardiology consultant support. However, this practice is supposed to change as the critical care team continues hiring more providers.
- Our night team is responsible for working with the swing providers to see new consults in the ER and field transfer calls for patients transferring to Mercy. The APP handles the floor calls and is supported by the Medical Emergency Response Team, which handles all the code calls.
- After 4 am, the night team does not physically see new consults (unless urgently warranted). They are responsible for placing basic admission orders on the new patients between 4a-7a. The nocturnist is responsible for distributing the patients to the appropriate lists for the day providers.
- The group meets for a team huddle every Tuesday and Friday at 8 a.m. Most of the time, leaders from other departments give us 10-15-minute teaching topics. We also have a one-hour team meeting monthly where the providers vote on any changes to our workflow.
- We have a seven on/off schedule but help cover for our teammates as needed. This is especially important to us as most providers travel out of the country frequently to visit their families.
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
- We put patients first. Always.
- A focus on growth and development is a crucial feature of Sound's practices, where teammates can expand their careers here locally and within the broader medical group.
- We're a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.
