Job description
Job Overview:
This position is responsible to monitor pool activity and facilitate safe and appropriate pool practices, to rescue/assist those in need and provide instruction to participants, to maintain a clean pool environment. Team participation and member interaction are also included.
Job Requirements:
2 years High School Education;
Age 16 with work permit
American Red Cross lifeguard certification
First Aid, CPR, AED
YMCA lifeguard or other certifications may be accepted
Knowledge and demonstration of basic rescue technique Excellent swimming skills including ability to swim 300 meters using the 5 basic strokes
Up to 1 year experience one season or summer of lifeguard experience
Job Responsibilities:
Creates a positive work environment and establishes relationships with key patients/customers, physicians, departments, and staff. Promote safety of pool area, needed rescue/prevention of accidents and injuries. Informs management of safety hazards as they may arise. Communicates with management staff regarding problems and concerns of members and participates in record keeping of the department.
Picks up extra time to meet department needs. Changes assignments if needed.
Creates a positive work environment, regularly assists coworkers, gives positive feedback when appropriate, and acts as a mentor to new employees/students.
Actively motivates and assists members with their swimming proficiency and overall fitness goals. Maintains order by aiding members in appropriate lane selection. Lifeguard is responsible for adding lanes depending on the number of participants for water fitness classes.
Actively maintains clean pool areas by performing the following as needed: scrubbing pool scum line, hosing pool decks, wiping down pool ladders and drinking fountains, and keeping drains free of debris.
