Job Summary:

  • The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and emergency maintenance on building systems and equipment to ensure continuous plant operations. This includes both preventive maintenance and equipment installations, as well as building construction when needed. The role also involves following strict safety procedures, housekeeping duties, and operating a variety of mechanical and electrical systems and tools.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on facility equipment and systems to ensure continuous operation.
  • Install new equipment and assist with building construction as needed.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various plant systems, including boilers, plant air systems, steam systems, fire systems, and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (P.M.) tasks such as lubrication, monitoring hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and maintaining forklifts and clamp trucks.
  • Use mechanical drawings and prints to repair, rebuild, and troubleshoot plant equipment and systems, including gear trains, bearings, seals, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, pumps, couplings, speed reducers, and worm gears.
  • Set up and operate manufacturing equipment, including setting tolerances and replacing/paralleling rolls.

Safety Procedures:

  • Adhere to safety rules and housekeeping guidelines, ensuring the safe operation of all machinery and tools.
  • Receive training in various safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), fall hazards, electrical safety, welding/brazing safety, forklift operation, and emergency response.
  • Follow safe work practices for hot work (welding/brazing) and electrical tasks up to 480 volts 3-phase.
  • Participate in vessel entry and confined space safety procedures.

Welding Duties:

  • Safely perform welding, brazing, and cutting operations.
  • Prepare joints for welding and lay out welding projects, including vertical and horizontal welding.

Electrical Duties:

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems, including installations involving conduit layout and bending.
  • Use electrical prints and schematics to identify and solve issues.
  • Select proper fuses and overload relay heaters using appropriate charts.

Equipment Operated:

  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including:
  • Boilers
  • Plant air systems
  • Steam systems
  • Fire suppression systems
  • Wastewater treatment systems
  • Use computer input terminals, drill presses, grinders, hydraulic presses, power hand tools, ohm meters, strobe lights, amp clamps, micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Certified to operate forklift and clamp trucks.

Communication:

  • Effectively communicate with team members using both hand signals and verbal communication to coordinate tasks and ensure safe operations .

Educational Training & Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Certified Forklift/Clamp Truck operator.
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance, including troubleshooting and equipment repair.
  • Welding certification preferred, with experience in both vertical and horizontal welding.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in reading mechanical and electrical prints/schematics.
  • Ability to safely operate a wide range of tools and equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a focus on safety and efficiency.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
