Job description

OVERVIEW BlueHalo has a full-time Research Scientist position available to support the Optoelectronic Device and Materials Research Group within the Material and Manufacturing Directorate (RXEE) of the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) as part of the Biological, Electronic and Nanoscale Department of the BlueHalo Air Force Business Unit. WHAT YOU WILL DO This position will require working with government customers at the AFRL developing advance concepts of photonic materials for next generation integrated photonic chips and devices. In addition to supporting ongoing efforts, you will be expected to assist in developing new concepts, help write project proposals, and develop new technologies for future projects. WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING Master's degree in Optics, Physics, or Electro Optics with 2 years of experience working in a laboratory / manufacturing industry. Ph.D. in Optics, Physics, or Electro Optics is preferred. Demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of infrared (IR) lasers and optical test instrumentation needs using free space optics, IR imaging, and possibly fiber optics. Demonstrated the knowledge and experience testing Integrated photonic chips using both edge and grading coupling techniques for passive and active devices. Possess a good working knowledge of simulation and analysis software such as Matlab, Simulink, Python, and LabView. Experience with infrared camera Image processing is also important. Experience combining these software modalities a plus. Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills Familiarity with productivity software suites (Microsoft Office, Google Suite) used for email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, cloud file sharing, and virtual meetings. Strong ability to clearly communicate results, prepare technical reports, adapt to challenges, work independently, and effectively time manage responsibilities Willingness to collaborate and work with other scientists and engineers Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain a secret clearance.
