We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Non-Profit Accountant with proficiency in MIP Fund Accounting to join our finance team. This role is vital to ensuring the financial health and transparency of our organization, allowing us to continue making a positive impact.

Key Responsibilities of the Non-Profit Accountant:

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:

    • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and fund accounting principles.
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
    • Assist in the preparation of financial presentations for the Board of Directors and key stakeholders.
  • Grant Management:

    • Oversee the financial management of grants, including tracking grant expenditures, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
    • Collaborate with program managers to develop grant budgets and monitor spending against grant allocations.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Work with the Finance Director to develop and manage the organization's annual budget.
    • Monitor actual performance against budget, providing insights and recommendations to management.
  • General Ledger Maintenance:

    • Manage the organization's general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and categorized.
    • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, investment accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • MIP Fund Accounting System Management:

    • Utilize MIP Fund Accounting software to maintain accurate financial records, including the setup and maintenance of accounts, funds, and reporting structures.
    • Ensure the integrity and security of financial data within the MIP system.
    • Train and support other staff members in the use of MIP Fund Accounting as needed.
  • Audit & Compliance:

    • Support the annual audit process by preparing required documentation and working with external auditors.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and non-profit accounting standards.
    • Assist in the preparation of Form 990 and other required tax filings.
  • Process Improvement:

    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of financial reporting and compliance.
    • Stay current with non-profit accounting best practices and regulatory changes, recommending updates to policies and procedures as needed.

Qualifications of the Non-Profit Accountant:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Proficiency in MIP Fund Accounting software is required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting principles.
  • Experience with grant management and compliance is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • CPA or similar certification is a plus, but not required.
