Job description

Position summary:

The purpose of this position is to provide expert advice to facility staff to establish and maintain systems that are effective and efficient to operate the dietary department and provide food service to residents in a cost-effective, efficient manner to safely meet residents' needs in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.

Provides consulting to Dietary Services Director

Work cooperatively with facility staff.

Develop or recommend a current diet manual to meet the needs of the residents.

Assess and document the nutritional needs of each resident in accordance with the resident comprehensive assessment and care plan.

Review and plan all regular and therapeutic diets and menus.

Review residents' dietary profile, assessment plan and plan of care for residents related to nutritional status and eating function to determine if there is a problem or concern that can be resolved, improved or addressed in a different manner to improve the resident's nutritional status and eating function.

Approve all permanent menu substitutions.

Counsel residents regarding dietary likes and dislikes, appetite, food habits and therapeutic menus.

Assess and document residents' food allergies and cultural backgrounds that may affect food consumption.

Evaluate and make recommendations regarding the serving time of meals, sanitation and food handling procedures.

Evaluate and make recommendations regarding food service equipment.

Evaluate food based on nutritional adequacy, method of preparation, taste, appearance, serving temperature and portion size.

Assist DDS in adjusting recipes for desired yield.

Develop an established method for ordering food and dietary supplies.

Act as a liaison between dietary department and residents.

Plan and conduct in-service training programs for food service employees, nurses and nursing assistants.

Complete a report, including recommendations, for each visit to the facility.

Evaluate and make recommendations for adequate staffing of the Dietary Department.

Consistently work cooperatively with Food Service personnel.

Be responsible of the safety of residents under his/her supervision.

Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.

Observe all infection control procedures.

Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.

Assume accountability for all data contained in the employees' handbook.

Assume Quality Assurance duties as assigned.

Come to work in neat, clean attire and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.

Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.

Complies with laws and regulations applicable to position and acts in accordance with facility Compliance Program.

Treats all residents, visitors, and staff with courtesy.

Attends and participates in in-service training, performance improvement (PI) committees and other meetings as scheduled and directed.

HIPAA

Follows and adheres to facility policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information.

Uses and/or discloses only minimum amount of protected health information necessary to complete assigned tasks.

Reports all suspected violation of facility HIPAA policies or procedures to the Administrator.

Resident Rights

Knows Resident Rights. Helps the residents exercise and/or protect their rights.

Reports resident complaints to management.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25,000.00 - $27,000.00 per year

Expected hours: No less than 10 per week
