Job description

Geddis Paving needs a highly skilled and experienced Lead Mechanic to join the team. This role will be critical in overseeing the maintenance and repair of our fleet of construction vehicles and equipment. This is both a supervisory role (organizing, delegating, managing) and a wrench-in-hand role. We need someone happy to wear both of those hats.

Geddis itself is very stable - this role is busy year round, no fear of seasonality here. We're almost done building a second property just a few miles down the road as well. There will be plenty of room for learning, growth and advancement in the years to come here at our company.

This role involves collaborating with at least 2 other mechanics already on the team, ensuring that all between the 3 of you, all tasks are performed efficiently, safely, and to the high standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vehicle and equipment repair, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to maintaining the operational readiness of our construction fleet. We are specifically looking for experience with either Construction or Agricultural equipment, or something else extremely similar/directly transferable.

Schedule:

  • Typical working hours are 7 am - 4 pm (but we are open to slightly earlier or later starts, depending on your availability)
  • Most often working 10 hour days, 5 days/week
  • Hours per week can vary depending on the seasons and projects.
  • Off-hours emergencies are occasionally a thing, being available for the occasional night or weekend is a huge plus

Geddis maintains an entire fleet of paving, excavating, and utility installation equipment for major commercial, industrial, and public projects at the municipal, state, and federal levels.

Responsibilities and Expectations in this role:

  • Supervise, train, and provide daily guidance to a team of 2-4 mechanics.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues with construction vehicles and equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, paving equipment, crushing equipment, and trucks.
  • Ensure routine maintenance and repairs are performed on all company vehicles and equipment.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair work.
  • Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Work is directed by the Shop Manager - Collaborate with Shop Manager and other company staff to coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
  • Provide technical support and advice to mechanics and other team members.
  • Ensure the workshop is clean, organized, and equipped with the necessary tools and equipment.
  • Adhere to all company and OSHA safety guidelines and regulations
  • Ability to handle office admin tasks on tablet or laptop

Qualifications we are looking for:

  • High school diploma or GED; technical degree or certification in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanic, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency with mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL strongly preferred!
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy objects over 50 pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen
  • Understand the Company's business and customer-base
  • Ability to identify and mitigate scheduling conflicts

Benefits offered at Geddis:

  • Competitive pay at $22-38/hour
  • Health and dental/vision insurance
  • 401(k) with match
  • Eligible to participate in performance-based incentive plan after one year of service
  • Company-issued phone or cell phone reimbursement
  • PTO
  • 6 Paid Holidays
  • Company vehicle after 6 months of service
