Job description

Champaign Residential Services We are expanding our Behavior Support Department in Urbana, OH The Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for the development, monitoring, coordination, and reviewing of designated behavior programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. This person will need to have a positive, proactive, and innovative approach to behavior support that stresses skill development, individual rights and quality of life. He/she shall maintain necessary relationships with consumers, parents, staff, professionals, community members, etc. to foster a spirit of cooperation and willingness to work together for the benefit of the individuals we serve. Behavior Support Specialist Responsibility:

  • Ensure that Champaign Residential Services, Inc. operates under the current rules and standards established by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and Title XIX Medical Regulations as they relate to behavior, programming, individual rights, and behavior medications.
  • Maintain continued awareness of new programming developments in the area of behavior support for individuals with developmental disabilities. Work to integrate new approaches into day to day practice/agency culture.
  • Assist and monitor direct care and professional staff in areas of behavior program implementation and documentation. This should be done with the joint efforts of the QIDP and Support Supervisor/Manager.
  • Provide on-going monitoring and oversight of designated behavior programs, identifying patterns and discrepancies and making program changes as needed.
  • Be available to perform all necessary duties to insure complete, continuous implementation of designated behavior plans.
  • Assess and analyze behavior in order to develop plans, procedures, strategies, or supports.
  • Consult with other professionals (Counselors, Psychiatrists, Doctor, etc.) as needed regarding an individual's needs, relating necessary information, program progress, and appropriate recommendations.
  • Compile monthly data on designated behavior plans in progress, reviewing the compiled data and making appropriate changes and recommendations.
  • Compile and present information to the Behavior Support Committee (BSC) regarding program progress as well as carry out the recommendations of the BSC in a timely, professional manner.
  • Track metrics to ensure continuous improvement.
Behavior Support Specialist Qualifications:
  • Must have one of the following:
    • Hold a valid license issued by the Ohio board of psychology;
    • Hold a valid license issued by the Ohio counselor, social worker and marriage and family therapist board;
    • Hold a valid physician license issued by the state medical board of Ohio; or
    • Hold a bachelor's or graduate-level degree from an accredited college or university and have at least three years of paid, full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in developing and/or implementing behavioral support and/or risk reduction strategies or plans.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to extract pertinent information from verbal accounts (active listening.)
  • Must have the ability to work independently, as a team, and make good decisions based on analysis, judgment and experience.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products
