Job description

DEFINITION:

The Diabetes Educator provides diabetes survival skills to patients that are either newly diagnosed or knowledge deficient, based on patient assessment, diagnosis and physician goals. Provides leadership by working with ancillary team members in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in a clinical setting. Actively participates as team member to control hyperglycemia and prevent hypoglycemia in hospitalized patients. Develops and implements in-services for staff and physicians.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS (IF APPLICABLE):

Authorized to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma.

Current Basic Life Support.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

CDE, 8-10 hour Diabetes Education Training Program; must be obtained within a year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

BSN

Prefer experience as staff nurse on a medical/surgical unit within the last 5 years.

Experience with patients with diabetes.
