Job description

The Aircraft Mechanic I (CH-47 Prop & Rotor Specialty) repairs, services, and troubleshoots malfunctions on aircraft drive train and rotor systems. Remove and install aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as rotor systems, transmissions, drive trains, and their components. Service and lubricate aircraft and subsystems. Safely prepare aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks and services. Perform scheduled inspections and assist in performing special inspections. Perform limited maintenance operational checks and diagnoses and troubleshoots aircraft power train systems using special tools and test equipment as required. Use and perform operator maintenance on tools, special tools, and aircraft ground support equipment. Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as aircraft technical manuals, maintenance information and action messages, and all technical guidance provided through government official representatives. Maintain and repair aircraft power train components. Apply technical knowledge of power train systems in determining equipment malfunctions and use required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation. Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required. Performs other duties as requested. Minimum Requirements Knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts. Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, and micrometers. Working knowledge of technical publications, and logistics information systems. Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects. Participate in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required. Possess the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by mechanics. The incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records. Knowledge of military publications (including electronic manuals), drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams, and schematics is mandatory. Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work specifications is a plus. Required three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS). CH-47 All experience must be within the six most recent years. A valid up-to-date A&P license is preferred but not required. All mechanics assigned to perform maintenance on FAA certified aircraft must meet FAA requirements. Must provide own tools/toolbox. Tools must be shadowed and PID etched in each tool. Valid Driver's License High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Clearance Requirements: Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility. Physical Requirements/Work Environment Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds. Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices. Work is performed in Aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work could be performed outside as well. May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance. May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
