Job description

This position s primary responsibility is to assist the Benefits Manager and the Senior Benefits Specialist in the administration of firm wide insurance benefits and benefit programs. This position reports to the Benefits Manager as part of the human resources team and is located in the Portland office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Photocopy, scan, fax, print and organize documents, route internal mail and documents, prepare and transmit basic correspondence, file management and maintenance (hard copy and electronic), track and report work assignments, maintain strict confidentiality of the firm's internal and personnel affairs, other administrative tasks as assigned.

Assist the Benefits Manager and Senior Benefits Specialist with the administration of firm-provided and voluntary insurance programs, COBRA, Open Enrollment, Wellness Fair, HRIS system input/entry, year-end and monthly processing of enrollments and bill payment, transportation programs, benefits filing, and other benefits related items.

Technical Knowledge

Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent, experience working in an office and/or law firm setting is a plus, basic understanding of accounting is a plus. Experience as a benefits assistant or administrative assistant. Basic understanding of personnel and/or benefits practices either through experience or formal academic training; proficient in Windows-based word processing software, spreadsheets, graphics. Experience with HRIS database.

Physical/Mental Capabilities

Must be able to operate telephone, personal computer, photocopy machine and other general office equipment. Able to handle confidential information, and multiple and changing priorities. Must be able to read and comprehend hand-written or typed notes or instructions. Able to comprehend and analyze detailed information, and to learn new benefits programs within time frames required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school degree or equivalent, and at least 3 years relevant experience are required.
