Overview
With compassion and commitment, Child Abuse Specialists embody the Legacy mission of making life better for others. They do this by collecting psychosocial information from parents/guardians of patients, assessing immediate risk. They work in partnership with the Emergency Department multi-disciplinary team, Law Enforcement, Department of Human Services and CARES NW. You are committed to working with healthcare teams to ensure every patient receives the care, comfort and dignity they deserve. If this is how you define your role as a Child Abuse Specialist, we invite you to consider this opportunity.
At CARES Northwest, the health and safety of children come first. We are passionate about ending child abuse through effective prevention, medical evaluation, treatment and support. Join us as we help children and families overcome the crisis of abuse, and move forward toward hope and healing. Established in 1987, CARES Northwest is one of nation's oldest children's advocacy centers and the largest in Oregon. Our program is a unique collaboration of four health systems - Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, OHSU's Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, and Providence Children's Health - and child abuse multidisciplinary partners in Multnomah and Washington counties. Advocating for over 42 ,000 children in our 34-year history, CARES Northwest is a leader in our region's efforts to protect our increasingly diverse and complex community of children and promote their healing.
Responsibilities
Child Abuse Specialists (CAS) typically work irregular and unscheduled hours and are sited at Legacy Emanuel Hospital Department (ED). When called upon they are responsible for responding within 30 minutes or less.

If a record exists, the BCU will report the finding back to CARES NW and findings will be addressed in accordance with program policies.
