Job description

Seeking a highly organized and experienced Retail Construction Superintendent to oversee the on-site management and coordination of retail construction projects. The ideal candidate will ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to quality standards. This role requires hands-on supervision, leadership, and communication skills to manage subcontractors and liaise with clients and stakeholders in Portland, Oregon.

Our client is one of Portlands' largest and well-established GC's in the Pacific Northwest. They span across the multifamily and commercial fields, oversees ground up and tenant improvement projects with a pipeline of $200M.

Description

  • Project Management: Oversee daily construction activities, ensuring adherence to the project schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Manage and supervise subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with project timelines, safety regulations, and scope.
  • Quality Control: Monitor work to ensure it meets design specifications and client expectations, performing regular inspections throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Scheduling & Planning: Develop and maintain construction schedules and ensure timely completion of key milestones.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and ensure OSHA compliance on-site, conducting regular safety meetings and inspections.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, project managers, and inspectors, ensuring clear communication and issue resolution.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including daily logs, change orders, and project reports.
  • Problem Solving: Identify potential issues or delays early and proactively develop solutions to keep projects on track.

Profile

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience as a superintendent, preferably in retail or commercial construction.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes, including familiarity with Portland's permitting process.
  • Leadership: Proven experience managing multiple subcontractors and construction crews.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend) and Microsoft Office.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients, subcontractors, and city officials.
  • Safety Certification: OSHA 30-hour certification is required or willingness to obtain.
  • Driver's License: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel between job sites.
  • Experience in fast-track retail projects, tenant improvements, or multi-site rollouts.
  • Familiarity with LEED or sustainable building practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field.
