The Injury Prevention Specialist provides athletic training, prevention and wellness services to clients, employees, and other patients under the direction of the Medical Director, Occupational Medicine physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with state athletic training practice act. Primary role includes injury prevention techniques, job hazard analysis, ergonomic assessments, and first aid on job site or via Video Visits. Meets the professional, clinical, technical, communication and documentation requirements and standards and to make decisions based on established guidelines.

The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains appropriate general treatment orders and operating procedures to be reviewed annually and approved by the designated, Medical Director, or physician.
2. Operate under OSHA compliance as well as policy and procedure of the client's site.
3. Provides pertinent healthcare-related information of the injured client employee, in a clear, concise professional manner to the appropriate Occupational Medicine support staff and administration
4. Provide injury prevention services for client companies as it relates to first aid, early intervention, or education to prevent worksite injuries. Act as a liaison between client companies including management, union leaders, executives and employees and the Occupational Medicine Department Leadership.
5. Provide ergonomic services, including but not limited to job hazard analysis, solution development and implementation, and ergonomic/body mechanics training.
6. Maintain accurate records of all employee encounters and report such incidents to the client company and St. Luke's Occupational Medicine Department as appropriate.
7. Communicates effectively between program stakeholders, client site and corresponding St. Luke's clinic personnel.
8. Ensures that services are provided in a timely, accurate, effective, and cost-efficient manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures and practices.
9. Assists Occupational Medicine Prevention and Wellness Manager, Network Director and Medical Director in evaluating program effectiveness and provide any program updates in a timely manner.
10. Aggregate site data and articulate program return on investment to stakeholders.
11. Injury Prevention Specialists working in an office setting shall have a plan of care or written protocol as required by their respective licensing board (PA or NJ).
12. Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provide St. Luke's University Health Network with the necessary documentation on such requirements. (I.e., BOC Continuing Education reporting and renewal, Bi-annual state certification renewal, annual CPR recertification.)

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1. Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 8 hours per day; 6 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 20 minutes at a time. Occasionally lift, carry, and push objects up to 30 pounds. Transport patients weighing up to 250 pounds via wheelchair. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision. Travel up to 50% of time via private motor vehicle.

POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:

Cuts and punctures, being confined to small spaces, slippery surfaces, assault and battery, radiation, chemical, and biohazards, injuries from operating machinery, burns, and back injuries. Employees who work in patient care areas where they may have potential exposure to patients with suspected or proven tuberculosis (TB) must have the ability to wear a particulate respirator and be fit-tested in compliance with the current recommendations from the CDC (enforced by OSHA) or must provide physician documentation as to the inability to wear a particulate respirator.

SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE:

Gloves, face masks, and gowns.

MOST COMPLEX DUTY:

Establishing and implementing a comprehensive and successful injury prevention program to meet a client's specific needs.

SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO):

Responsible to the Medical Director, Occupational Medicine for clinical issues. Also, supervised by the Network Director, Urgent Care and Occupational Medicine for administrative matters.

COMMUNICATIONS:

Must be able to communicate with physicians, professionals in related health care fields, business clients, patients, families, the community, and all levels of hospital employees.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a valid driver's license.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Graduate of an accredited, professional athletic training education program required.

Master's Degree is Preferred.

Active Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Athletic Training License required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience in industrial or occupational setting is preferred. Fluency in Spanish language preferred. Experience in the industrial, occupational setting is preferred.
