Overview:
The Team Leader will be expected to take on a leadership role within the Ports and Harbors team, providing project oversight and technical guidance to project managers performing engineering and design services work on waterfront and heavy industrial projects, including those which may be out-of-state. Provide a high level of customer service to clients and deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Direction
Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
At the Operational and Company Level
Assist in developing processes and provide input on achieving company and office operational excellence while growing region and office.
Represent the firm by attending and delivering presentations at professional events.
Provide oversight and direction for the market sector, including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables.
Market the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
Do the Work
Responsible for the quality and timely submission of Ports and Harbors deliverables to the clients.
Responsible for client interaction, including preparation of new contract proposals, change orders, and attendance at project meetings.
Lead and manage multi-disciplinary project teams from bid until completion, while looking to obtain future business and performing own project duties.
Mentor and direct junior staff, coordinate with project managers, and responsible for goal setting and performance management of engineering team Review project changes, pending or anticipated alterations to the contract, additional work requests, and all other factors, which may significantly affect staffing requirements or budget.
Provide technical assistance in the resolution of design problems including field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, detailed review of design computations done by others and general coordination of design aspects.
Manage and maintain contractual agreements and perform QA/QC on all proposals prior to submission.
Attend relevant professional society events throughout region to network with teaming partners and clients / prospective clients.
Coordinate and lead debriefing meetings internally.
Understand the client's challenges and strategize on how the Company can provide value and services. Track and organize opportunities to be pursued in the region.
Ensure financial viability and achieve annual profit and growth objectives.
Apply expert-level technical knowledge and experience to complete assignments. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
Develop a system, maintain, and update lists of project pursuits with public agencies and private sectors.
Track and organize opportunities to be pursued, assigning proposal manager and project manager leads for optimal success to win, well in advance of public advertisement.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in structural engineering, civil engineering, or related field.
Master's degree preferred.
Ten or more (10+) relevant experience in structural engineering to include a minimum of five (5) years managing complex large-scale projects.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Knowledge of maritime industry.
Working knowledge of ASCE, AISC, ACI, AWS, and other relevant marine, port, and coastal construction and structural design codes, standards, regulations, and compliance practices required.
Strong understanding of computer applications such as STAAD Pro, Revit, AutoCAD, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
Valid state driver's license and ability to successfully complete motor vehicle records check OR a reliable form of transportation to/from office and/or project site preferred.
Successful completion of background check, safety training, non-DOT pre-employment and random post-employment drug screening.
Thorough understanding of municipal codes and regulations.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
Mobility around an office environment.
Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Frequent local travel to and/or work in an outdoor environment which may include being on watercraft, adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
