Job Responsibilities:

Operation and maintenance of vacuum equipment for thin film deposition via magnetron sputtering vapor deposition.

Planning, coordinating, executing, documenting, and communicating results from complex experiments involving significant numbers of samples

Processing (cutting, labelling, and heating) of coated glass samples

Photography, microscope imaging, and root cause analysis of glass and coating defects

Making measurements of various physical coating properties such as:

Spectral/color properties using spectrophotometers

Ellipsometric properties via variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometer - VASE

Electrical properties such as sheet resistance or carrier density mobility - Hall Effect

Characterization of chemical and mechanical durability of developmental and commercial MSVD coatings

Data queries of production coating parameters from PI data historian along with

graphical and basic statistical analysis (using Excel, Minitab, or JMP software)

Entry of data into electronic spreadsheets, plotting/charting of such data and

interpreting results

Required Skills/Experience:

Aptitude and willingness to perform hands-on laboratory work with glass.

Some experience with operation or maintenance of vacuum equipment is strongly preferred

Adherence to safe work practices and compliance with all environmental, health,

safety and security protocols as specified by Vitro personnel or documented

procedures

Attention to detail, documentation, and organizational skills

Flexibility to come up to speed quickly and perform effectively on new projects

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software.

Ability to accurately organize, enter and plot data in Excel spreadsheets or other software packages

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Good interpersonal and communication skills

Aptitude and willingness to continually learn and expand skill set

Additional Desirable Skills:

Experience maintaining/repairing electrical and/or mechanical devices

Experience with Excel Macros, Excel Pivot tables, and JMP and/or Minitab software

Experience with defect detection and failure mode analysis of thin films on glass

Substrates

Previous laboratory experience in industrial setting

Education:

Minimum - Associates Degree or equivalent in a science-related or technology/engineering related field

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in a science related field

Additional Info:

Contract to hire - will be expected to work at least 6 months before considering transition. The manager will determine if the candidate has shown the ability to perform the work to progress to the level of Vitro Technician.

Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday 8 hours per day, 40 hours a week - Flexible between lab hours could be expected based on tasks for the week

Typical work environment is an industrial research and development laboratory setting in Cheswick, PA

Overtime may be available on occasion but typically not anything extensive. (1-2 hours) The exception being plant travel.

This position may require travel to US manufacturing plants. Travel would typically be multiple weekdays at a time, but some weekend travel may occasionally be required. While traveling on business, approved travel expenses (e.g. airfare, lodging, meals, etc.) are fully reimbursable.
