UPMC is hiring a full time Lead Doula! This is a day shift position with an on call requirement as well as rotating weekends and holidays. Purpose: To provide doula services through home visiting and birth support, as well as mentoring and support to less experienced doulas. Responsibilities: Responsibly use and maintain program-issued cell phone and other electronic devices as needed for patient data entry. Perform a post-partum visit after each birth attended, prior to hospital discharge, and relay birth information to community-based doula. Attend required meetings and in-services, including weekly Birth Circle Staff meetings, case meetings, and monthly doula meetings. Meet individually with team members each week for case-management and to monitor paperwork completion. Arrange and complete individual visits with women at their homes, in the health care center, or at other agreed upon locations, completing 7 visits per week. Contact and establish professional, caring relationship with women referred to the Birth Circle for Doula Services. Follow program protocols for after-hours and weekend calls; coordinate as needed with the on-call coordinator, answering service and on-call doula for clients whose birth will be attended by the on-call doula. Review per Birth Circle protocol each birth that team doulas attend. Provide continuous doula services to women during their births, that meet the DONA International Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, attending at least two births per month. Demonstrate the ability to speak and communicate clearly and professionally with pregnant and post-partum women, including single mothers and teens, many of whom face severe social, economic and physical hardship. Complete and turn in timesheet as scheduled. Maintain a flexible work schedule as agreed upon with supervisor to allow for after-hours and weekend client services as needed and approved. Demonstrate a service orientation toward patients, staff and visitors. Complete doula assessments and other required paperwork; maintain required records of patients visits and other services performed, for tracking and invoicing, including entry of service data into the program database and on-line data system Provide pregnancy-related information to women, on topics including pregnancy and fetal development, nutrition, childbirth, comfort measures during childbirth, breastfeeding, infant care, post-partum care, early parenting and post-partum depression. Provide knowledgeable breastfeeding support and refer clients to lactation support when appropriate. Participate in outreach and education at community events, meetings and other opportunities as agreed upon with supervisor. Perform post-partum home visits, assist mothers in scheduling and completing their post-partum check-up and their infant's well-child visits. Meet weekly with doula services coordinator, doula trainer, and program director for case management and team reporting. Demonstrate the ability to problem solve, to organize information and time, and to work as part of a team in a spirit of cooperation. Coordinate referrals for women to other social service agencies and parenting support services, when appropriate. Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA-compliant records. Serve as on-call coordinator one week in every three, in rotation with other lead doulas and doula services coordinator. (The answering service will contact the on-call coordinator after hours if a problem arises with reaching the on-call doula.) Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. BA or BS preferred. Minimum 2 years of Community-Based Doula experience. UPMC approved Doula training required prior to hire date. Position requires high degree of planning, organization, flexibility, listening, motivating, and community networking. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: UPMC approved Doula training.
