Job description
The Assistant Director of Endowment Accounting will be responsible for managing all accounting and reporting functions involving the Jewish Federation endowment assets. This includes endowments. philanthropic (donor-advised) funds, annuities, and trusts. This also includes sub-accounting, audit, and tax return supporting schedule preparation and maintenance. This position also manages the accounting and reporting functions for the Foundation for Jewish Day Schools and supporting organizations. This Assistant Director of Endowment Accounting has one direct report and is responsible for training, mentoring, and supervising staff providing support for endowment and Foundation for Jewish Day Schools accounting and reporting.
- Monthly reconciliation of all endowment investment pools between the endowment administrator, the Jewish Federation accounting system, and the custodial accounts.
- Oversee the allocation of income, gains, losses, etc. to individual funds within third-party administrator endowment sub-accounting system.
- Calculate annual and other periodic endowment spending for all endowments.
- Ensure endowments are properly categorized to align with donor designations
- Review requests for weekly endowment distributions and distributions from Donor Advised Funds (DAF) and approve weekly check runs for all endowment and DAF distributions.
- Provide quarterly valuation updates on each endowment component.
- Complete the import (into Sage Intacct) of sub-accounting system transactions for all endowment-related transactions
- Properly value and account for all CGAs, CRTs, and non-performing investment assets.
- Co-lead innovation and automation of endowment administrator reporting
- Develop and implement reporting efficiencies for donor advised (philanthropic) funds
- Assist with automating, streamlining, and auditing accounting and system processes.
- Direct and, as appropriate, perform all accounting functions for the Foundation for Jewish Day Schools
- Liaise with Foundation staff to ensure donations are properly recorded and allocated, scholarship awards are accurate, and disbursements are completed timely.
- Prepare all financial statement audit schedules for endowment components
- Compile all applicable reports and schedules to support the annual financial statement audit and Federal income tax return for the Foundation for Jewish Day Schools
- Other duties as assigned and necessary
Education and Training
- Previous experience utilizing Microsoft Office, with a high skill level in Microsoft Excel required
- Experience using accounting/fundraising software required. Experience using Sage Intacct and BBCRM is a plus
- High degree of accuracy, efficiency and consistency in work product
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Must be collaborative, a team player, conscientious, and hardworking
- Able to prioritize and manage the production of work so overall quality and quantity of work meets or exceeds our organization's requirements and objectives.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
