Description

  • To assume all responsibilities of the school health office as a school nurse, overseeing the daily health, treatment, and emergency situations at the school.
  • To see children as needed, contact parents for students' seen by the nurse through oral/written communication.
  • To keep an accurate log of students' seen.
  • To collect and maintain physical/immunization records and complete any necessary forms from the state or county.
  • To collect staff emergency forms on a yearly basis.
  • Distribute medications (with doctor's orders).
  • Assistance during fire drills/evacuation drills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding treatment of children/staff members both in an emergency situation and under normal situations.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized health office environment.
  • Filling in classes if there is no substitute available or during teacher lunches or breaks.
  • Knowing and abiding by all Newtown Discovery Preschool policies and procedures.
  • Sharing duties as necessary for the Front Desk area as needed maintaining security through door lock, buzzer system, answer teacher/parent questions, answer phones promptly, relay
  • messages appropriately.
  • Maintaining the Qualities and Values of Newtown Discovery Preschool.
  • Attending staff meetings and training sessions to meet requirements in job offer.
  • Meeting the required professional development hours through Newtown Discovery Preschool in-service trainings and approved external educational workshops.
  • Complying with the dress code policy.
  • Changing diapers or children's clothes that have been soiled or wet. Assisting children if they become ill.
  • Greeting children and parents at arrival and dismissal and complying with the release of children policy.
  • Keeping all children's files and information confidential.
  • Accountable for morning absentee sheets.
  • Knowledgeable on all allergy plans.
  • Put together and execute presentations about healthy living for students.
  • Additional tasks and duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
  • Hold a Licenced Practical Nurse certification.
  • Complete PA Criminal Background Check
  • Evidence of CPR, First Aid, AED and Bloodborne Pathogen Training.
  • Complies with all state education and licensing standards and maintains validation of credentials for the position.
  • Friendly, welcoming, open-minded personality required
  • Energetic,optimistic, and compassionate attitude required
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to work in a multi-tasked, fast-paced environment with general supervision
  • Patient, courteous listener with the ability to show empathy required
  • Ability to interact professionally with multiple levels of personnel within the organization internally and externally
  • Effective verbal communication skills are a must
  • May sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk frequently during the day.
  • May stand four (4) to eight (8) hours per day.
  • May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion or more depending on child's weight.
  • Visual acuity to see and read fine prints. Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to hear normal voice sounds.
