Job Description Control Systems Engineer The GBS Group has an exciting opportunity for a Control Systems Engineer. As a Control Systems Engineer with GBS, you will work both independently and with a team of designers and engineers on complex projects related to Naval ship platforms. The position will develop and design state of the art systems for implementation aboard US Naval Vessels. This will include prototype execution and demonstration, troubleshooting, installation support and coordination. Direct training of ships personnel and support staff and life cycle support functions will be accomplished. This position will also contribute real value by developing future systems for HM&E Machinery Control Systems for U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Army and Military Sealift Ships supported by the U.S. Navy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Development of new and/or modification of existing control systems and instrumentation systems for U.S. Navy ships. Assist in the troubleshooting and repair of existing control systems to include electrical and mechanical interfaces. Onboard ships assistance to include troubleshooting assistance and training of shipboard personnel in the operation of and maintenance of these systems. Review of legacy systems and drawings to recommend and develop system upgrades. Interpret system requirements and design control and sensor circuitry for control systems. Use of diagnostics tools and instruments. Gain knowledge of and assist in improvement of major concepts and practices within control system envelope. Development of electrical and mechanical design and drawing development to document systems. Review and development of technical documentation including technical manuals and systems equipment lists. Work in a team environment interfacing with various stake holders to include planning yards, shipyards, installation teams and ships force. Ability to travel up to 20% based on position requirements. Qualifications Candidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: Minimum Education: Bachelor's level degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited college or university. Target Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience in designing and working with software and/or PLC based control systems and instrumentation systems. (Knowledge of Rockwell/Allen Bradley equipment preferred) Two (2) years professional experience in reading and modifying electrical schematics and diagrams. Two (2) years' experience in the use and application of test equipment and diagnostic tools for troubleshooting of and setup of control systems and PLC based control system hardware and software (Rockwell/Allen Bradley preferred). Knowledge of Linux systems a plus. Independent problem-solving ability a plus. Ability to communicate and report findings both written and verbal. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level government clearance. - U.S. Citizenship required. Physical / Mental Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Reasonable troubleshooting skills Basic and advanced math computational skills Understand and interpret electrical drawing and schematics Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility or ship Must be able to squat, lift, stretch, and bend to reach all areas of the facility.
